Wheels, I hate my wheels!
I have the classic cup 16"wheels on the 968 and they are ugly!! I know not everyone agrees but I was wondering what others are running. Are 17's more popular, they definitely have a greater tire selection. I anyone running same width up front as in the back? Is the offset compatable with the boxter?

Coupe or cabrio? Not sure how well the cabs ride with wheels larger than 17"? At any rate, make sure your caster blocks are the updated M030 kind, as not all 968 had them stock.
I have 17" Cup 1 wheels on my 951 cab. The ride is certainly more firm than the S2 with the stock 16" D90s, but the suspension is stock so it's not too stiff.
Nice thing about the Cup 1s is that they're period correct if that's a consideration for you. Let us know what you decide.

The Cup II's came as an option in '93 - I have them as a factory option on my Cab. Many folks think these where 993 wheels - but they where first introduced on the 968 with the wider 7.5 front width. The 9 inch rears are the same as those used on the 993. I prefer these on my car and have heard of folks being unhappy with 18's on a Cab. Ride comfort is a very subjective issue and Tire choice is part of this as well. Those "carrera lightweigts" on Stephen's Yellow Cab are beautiful and suggest another important issue - Weight! If you are getting big wheels watch the weight - a big impact on ride and handling.

Thanks for the feedback. The car is a coup and it is not going to be a serios track car.
Richard, what brand of wheels are you running? They look like BBS. Do you need spacers with the 18x8 and 10 of did yo get specific offsets to match?
Stephenwz, I thought you could only get lightweight wheels in the hollow turbo twist. Are your Carrera lights a OEM wheel or a aftermarket? Since they were not made for the 968 are they a Boxter wheel or an actual 911 wheel?

These are best had in the OE version in 7.5" and 9" widths, as aftermarket are several pounds heavier.

Great choice, and a few pounds lighter than the OE Cup 1s.

Nope, the 5 spokes are from a 996 and are extremely light. They also made them for boxsters, but they had 7.5's up front, and I'd rather the 8 and 10 combo.

If cup IIs were introduced on the 968, then the 9" rear cup IIs would have a 944 or 968 part number, even on all 993s. My dad's 993 had cup IIs, and all 4 wheels had 993 part numbers. This is why I believe they came out with the 993 first.
I am now running 16x8 and 16x9 Club Sport wheels from a 944 turbo S (951S). They look cool and are the lightest and widest 16" wheel I know of. But the main reason I use them is I got them for $200, with tires! I think spending huge bucks, like $1000+ on wheels, is a luxury this student can't afford.

If this was true - my 1993 was a very special car - it's option code 403 shows it came with the Cup II wheels that are on the car now. It's Vin # shows it was sold as a 93 in June - built in February of 1993 # 314. The first production model year for 993's was 1994 - but production started in December of 1993. So I do not doubt the wheels were designed with all series Porsches in mind - but the 968 used the wheels first, and the front width & offset is unique. They where standard on the CS model sold in England in 93 and optional on US cars in the 93 model year. 993s also came standard with this style wheel as 16 inchers in the first two years. They where also referred to as "Cup Design 93" wheels. Amazing how many variations we see in Porsche wheel fitment and design. Regards, Jack
