Default Just bought my first 968/Oil change help

Actually I bought it in October but I didn't know this site existed. It's a 93' Blk/Blk Coupe with 115k today. When I bought her, she had 109k. Now is the time for an oil change. I have no idea how.(embarrassed) I have done an oil change on my fathers 964 which was spelled out in the owners manual. But there are no instructions in the 968's manual. If anyone can send pics or anything that can help i would appreciate. BTW I have an oil filter and 11qrts of oil on hand.

Lord, 1st off you don't need 11 quarts, 7 will do an oil change.
You need a oil filter socket to turn the oil filter off the housing. You also need a 15mm wrench to open the oil drain plug. Be ready to catch oil when you pull the oil filter as it will drip.
Its an easy job. Welcome to 968 ownership.
Good luck.

It also helps to remove the platic undertray, otherwise it can get messy..

Remove the undertrays, inc. the metal one or you will be cleaning up a lot of oil. As for the oil filter, it's mounted upside down so it will spill oil under the ppower steering res. so have rags under it too.

I would install between 5 - 6 qts of oil after change and top off as needed. This is a water cooled car, 11 qts goes in the air/oil cooled cars.

Have fun....and good luck.

My newspapers are delivered in long plastic bags, I slip one over the filter and twist tie it off below (obviously the engine can't be too hot). I have also heard of people doing the same thing with a sock.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I tried starting today but another issue arose. A front and rear jack point. Tons of plastic in the front and not a whole lot of anything in the back to support the weight. Also, I have read that the ring that goes around the drain pans plug must be replaced after every oil change is this true?

Use the rear jack point to get get the car up, then put jacks under the front points and the torsion tube housings in the rear. Then use the transmission to lift the rear a little, and move the jacks in the rear from the housings to the jack points. Good luck!
