Default Body trim - rubber spline questions...

What is the correct terminology for this ? I'm trying to describe the rubber filler molding that fits in between body panels all along the exterior of the 968.
Anyway, is there a good replacement option? Where to get it ? Does it need to be glued in place or pressure fit ? Thanks very much....

sunset imports - pretty cheap too - about 100 bucks does the whole car - you have to remove the panels on all but the rear bumper cover

I think it's called "bead" or "beading". You can use a good rubber adhesive AND when you re-tighten the polyurethane pieces (rockers, etc.) to the body, put the screw through the black rubber into the body. Have fun.

You will probably want to buy at least 50% of the mounting clips used in total on the car: apparently they break easily.

good call - they are only on the rocker panels, but they are rather fragile - also get the matching inserts for them - they are sold seperately

I call it Bull****. Its impossible to remove all the molding from front, back and sides, clean the area and then install it in 2 hrs.

not at all - removal of the bumper covers are only 20 minutes each - and now that i've done it a few times, much less for me - reinstall is about the same as removal - i just yanked my front one again thursday and it took a whopping 6 minutes - rocker panels are a total of 10 minutes - the cleanup is simple and only a few minutes

2 hours is plenty of time

not sure what the problem is

I have done it a lot more times than you. The rear bumper does not take 20 minutes. I guess jacking up the car, removal of wheels, removal of fender liners does not take any time at all.

no, since i don't actually usually do that just to remove the bumper cover

turn the wheels to one side, undo the one bolt in the fender liner

stuff the jack under, grab the hex screws at the belly pan

stick your arm up in the fender and undo the 3 screws in there

do the other side the same way

then zap the front apron screws with the right angle phillips

remove the 4 screws on top

pull cover off, one end at a time, disconnecting light connectors as you go

no big deal - no jack stands - no wheel removal

after having removed mine now a dozen times, i've figured it out

Yes and that is just the front bumper cover, what about the rear and the sides?
Its impossible to do it in 2 hrs, front/back and sides.

no, it's not impossible - no jacking required for the rest at all

i've done it complete twice now - once with somebody else watching - we didn't even finish our first beer - maybe you just can't do it - come on over - i'll show you how it's done
