Default 968 speedo

Hi,

I have heard that a Porsche 944 Turbo 250bhp has the same speedo as a 968.
Can anyone confirm if this is true pls?

Also is it true that a Tiptronic speedo is different to a manual G/box?

thanks

the speedometer sender on the '86 - '91 is mounted on the transaxle and pulses 8 times per wheel revolution

on the 968 the speedometer is fed off the right front ABS hub sensor which produces 45 pulses per revolution. so if the speedos are the same then all are the same, and there must be some type of 45 pulse to 8 pulse conversion done somewhere. (I hope someone has the definitive answer)

The speedo on a 968 uses the abs sensor to pickup its signal from the front wheel hub. Its different from 951's.

The signal is interpreted by the DME. The 968 guage cluster will plug into a 951 and perform flawlessly.

My German CS had the speedo unit changed when it was imported into the UK for convertion to mph. But whoever did it put a 944 speedo into the instrument cluster, i eventually realised because it only went up to 160mph compared to the 968 speedo which shows 180mph. The 944 speedo works perfectly well.

The spedometer is fed off of the left front ABS sensor, either instead of, or in addition to the right front sensor. I can tell you this for certain because when you break the left front hub, unfortunately a common problem on cars that are heavily tracked, the speedometer stops working.
