Default 968's at Sebring

Hi Folks,

Just thought I would share some pics and tales from last weekends Club Race at Sebring.

It was very interesting to see that in a class run of 77 cars, the top 7 cars were 951's and 968's......... and 13 out of the top 17 cars were 951's and 968's.
The class division was E so there was some reasonable fast machinery..... including much newer 911's.

Also a Rothmans Cup 951 and a nicely set up 968 took the fight right to a 996's in the higher divisions.... coming 2nd and 3rd I believe.

I have over 170 pics and about 50 mins of video......... I will be posting this on our website soon. I hope to have it up by Sunday.

One of the funniest things of the weekend....... heading back to our set up area I stumbled on a 968 that had a trailer hitch and a trailer pilled with tires hanging from the back of it!
You don't see that too often!
I was going to get a few more pics... but the owner was giving me a peculiar look and I did not want to seem rude, so I refrained.

Did any of you folks attend?

Cheers,
Paul R

How did Gary Grigsby do? I believe that is the white 968 you have in the picture.

Thanks, Mike

On 968.net there's a link about someone who put a hitch on their 968.

Gary won the F class sprint race from the pole. He qualified on the pole in the enduro, and we ended up finishing second in the race after losing the lead in the pits and getting a poor restart on a full course caution. We were pretty happy with the weekend's results considering neither of us had ever been there before.

Jim,

Congratulations on a great finish!

I know Sebring is fabled to be very tough on cars, so your finish (and placement) is even more impressive considering the competition and the support some of them have.

Another notch in your belt, man.

It's nice to hear these stories...I wonder when I'll get the guts to talk to my wife about 'the next level' of driving?

I'd like to think that some day I'll be doing more than DE's.

I really view this one more as a notch on Gary's belt than mine. I was just lucky enough to be along for the ride in the enduro. Gary's 968 is extremely well prepared, and was the best of the F class cars all weekend. He also drove it incredibly well, running what we're pretty sure are the fastest F class laps ever run at Sebring.

Jim, come on fess up I know me giving you in car tape of Sebring let u take at least 6 seconds off your lap times Great job driving, I lost 1 minute in pit stop, then on restart got stuck in traffic behind that white 944 D car, then sun got in my eyes, my dog ate my homework, you know how the rest of the excuses go.

Guys, as for the 968 with the trailer hitch, that is Nick.s car the 48 hour registrar. He used that when he drove his 944 to Des now he has upgraded ride to 968, smart boy that Nick.

When does anyone remmber there being 32 F cars registered for a PCA race? I gotta believe that is some kind of record too.

That tape really did help a bunch. Thanks!! By the time I got in the race car to drive Sunday morning I had done about all the preparation I could possibly do. I watched your tape at least 6 times all the way through. Gary and I walked the track Thursday night. I ran all the touring laps in my rental car on Friday and Saturday, and took many of the corners well above touring speeds I also managed to sneak a passenger ride in a DE car Friday morning. All that homework really paid off, as I was able to get down into the 2:34 range on my 6th or 7th lap Sunday morning. Ultimately it seems to me that quick lap times all come down to how fast you can take turns 1 and 17.

BTW, Rich's car is really beautiful as can be seen in the picture above. His car won the best prepared award giving 968's another victory last weekend.
