When was the last time the classifieds were updated at 968.net?? A year ago? I still occasionally get calls on a hood I had for sale two years ago.

Exactly. Plus, people on there really overprice their cars. One guy wanted $20K for his car, because thats what he put into it, for a black 93 with 100K miles.... it wasnt even really impressive.
I have over $30K in my car, but I wouldn't dream of trying to sell it for that!

Good luck finding cheap prices on 968s... You won't find almost anything less than $12k and not too much else under $16-18k. They are relatively rare and special vehicles, unlike (for the most part) 944's and 951's. Plus remember that even the oldest 968's aren't as old as the vast majority of 944's and 951's. Many still look very new (both in styling and in condition).

I take it you've already seen this white one for $10K.

Sounds like a decent car.

I have, and he's relatively close, but asking too much for a salvage car in my opinion.
I am willing to pay whatever it takes for the right car, but again, there are a lot of over priced 968's out there, and for $16K+, better be a hell of an example! Also, most are cabriolet tips...not what im lookin for

'Overpriced' is a relative term; it may be more than you want to pay, but the market is the market. Many people price them high because deep down they don't want to sell. You're more likely to find a car outside the Rennlist/968.net/Pelican/PCA sources that is inexpensive, because everyone at the enthusiast locations knows what the cars are-the real key is be ready to jump the minute you find a car that suits your needs, it won't last long. Trying to find someone to part exchange with a 951 will be difficult, you're better off selling it first.

Randy, there are some 968 owners out there that yearn for more power. Maybe a test drive in your car could convince them of a possible trade plus cash. They were made in small numbers and their prices have dipped down quite a bit in the last 2 years but in general they are still expensive and most of the owners take good care of them. You would normally not find a neglected 968 compared to a 951 or a 944.
I think it all stems to deeper pockets in general which works against someone like you who is looking for a good deal. These guys in general are not so hard pressed for cash. I might be generalizing but I have owned at least 6 951's before I moved over to 968's for their updated looks. I noticed this myself that they are owned by a completely different market.
Also, most 944/951 owners are not afraid to get their hands dirty unlike most 968 owners who pay to get wok done. A totally different crowd. I will keep an eye out and so will everyone else here in case we find a suitable car.
I don't want anyone to take it out of context or consider this an insult, its just my opinion and I love 951's dearly.
Regards.

Randy,

After all the effort you've put into your 951, I'm just plain curious as to why you want to part with it?

I realize that 968s are great cars, but over the years I've seen many, many Rennlisters give up their 951 cars for all kinds of Porsches and later wish they hadn't. Turbo boost is a hard thing to give up!

Luis, I couldn't agree with you more. Why do you think I went after a turbo 968. I missed the boost and in stock NA form the 968 is nothing to write home about. Max torque is at a heady 4500rpm and you have to ring them up to get going.

Having driven Raj's turbo and then driving my N/A 968-there is a world of difference that can't be explained with words. I emailed him the next day because I wanted to sell my 968 and buy a 951. Luckily, my more rational side won out, but the boost was really addictive. Maybe one day I can afford to put a 951 in the stable next to my 968.

As far as the selling, I just sold a 1994 Triple black cab with 88k (6 speed) and cup II's for 11k. It was in rough cosmetic shape but great mechanical shape. The market is funny with these cars, it really depends on the seller and how motivated they are to move the car. I had another one (my current 968) that I really wanted, so I didn't want to wait to find the perfect buyer who would throw lots of money my way. If you find a good car the owner can make all the difference; like Raj said, if they have deep pockets and can afford to keep it with no ill effects, they won't budge. I didn't have the bucks to do that, so I went the sell it the fastest route. Good luck with your search,

Steve

The type of person who would want to trade is someone who knows what kind of power a 951 makes... the cars are completely different, having driven both...
I have the money to pick up a 968, I just dont have the room for a bike and 2 cars (I am back in school)...
I want to pick up a 968 and an extra 968 engine, and turbocharge the motor properly and drop it in. I almost bought a $10K motor from TonyG that makes 400rwhp last week, but changed my mind when I realized I can get a 968 for that. I have had offers of $13K for my car (I advertised it for $14K for a short while), but didn't have the heart to sell. Now that my plans have changed, I am ready to sell, if I can find the right 968... I'll keep an eye out

Randy, in that case I suggest getting rid of your car 1st. This way you will have the money in your hands when you go to make your deal for your 968. Money talks and with cash in hand, you might be able to pull a sweet deal.
I think it was a wise decision to spend the money on a car instead.

Just how fast is your 951? I'm one of those 968 owners who has other P-cars and might consider a trade for a car that really interested me. i am really looking for the car in my avatar. I sold it about 5 or 6 years ago for a whole lot less than I had in it and I have regretted it ever since. It had about 400HP to the rear wheels and I really miss the feeling. I have a 6 speed cab, midnight blue metallic, blue top, cashmere beige interior, 77k miles. It is in good to very good condition, bone stock.
