Wonder why he didn't just take the $18k?
So is krazyfrank the guy who is buying the car for his son? He was certainly trying hard as I counted no less than 9 cars he was bidding on last month. He must want krazyfrank jr. to have a very merry Xmas.
He only has 1 more day to send his non-refundable $3,000 deposit. Perhaps after he sends it he won't follow through... should that occur may I be the first to ask to pay the balance of $11,850 and buy the car? Or is that just so much wishfull thinking?
You know what I couldn't figure out? Why did you let the auction go all the way the end? I mean, for a guy with as much Porsche buying/selling experience as you have you could see that the auction (for whatever reason) wasn't going to break into the $15k range... the bidding had stopped cold more than 2 hours before it was scheduled to end. It strikes me as odd that you wouldn't have chosen to end the auction early and sell it to the person who offered you $18k. You even pointed out early on in the description that you reserved the right to do just that which is why I didn't bid since I was convinced that the auction would not run to the end.
Although now as I carefully re-read the question and answer column with the auction I'm even more confused. One person asks how much to end it early and gets told $18.5k but the price is going up. Two other people who ask are told that you have an offer of $18k so they should offer more than that to end it now. Another person gets told that $18k would end it now. To add to the confusion all four of those "How much to buy it now?" questions are answered on the same day 11/28.
It just seems strange that if you were going to go to bat for every last dollar up in the 18 to $18.5k range then why in the heck would you be willing to accept $14,850?

Kiesan,
I did receive those exact offers, but no one stepped up in time, and the auction had no reserve.
It's ok, no use in worrying about how much I "could've gotten".
I expected it to reach at least $17k. Definately not a good time of the year to sell a car though.

I'm sure that when you were telling prospective buyers that you had legitimate offers in the $18k range that it wasn't all smoke and mirrors, right? I can't tell you how many times that I've been somewhere looking at a vehicle (car, bike or whatever) and the owner feels compelled to tell me about the guy in line at 7-11 that offered boatloads of $$$ for the vehicle but the owner lost his phone number or some other tragic event occurred preventing the owner from re-contacting that buyer. More often than not, the "offer" from our 7-11 Olde English 800 customer will seem to be within a few dollars of the buyers asking price. Funny how that works.
Speaking for myself, but as a buyer it is so refreshing to every so often encounter a seller who leaves those stories at home. When a person simply answers my questions and accurately describes what they have for sale including their asking price I am much more comfortable and willing to do business.
