Default Shifter slop????

I had my pinion and carrier bearings replaced last week. I will take pics of the bearings for you guys to look at. One of the pinion bearings was horrible.... the inner race had huge pits in its surface.

Anyway, when driving the car, the shifter feels looser / sloppy now. If I put the shifter in gear, I can wiggle the shifter left to right about a total of an inch or so. It doesn't feel right.

Can someone go out to there car and shift it into 1st, or any gear, and wiggle the shifter? Let me know how much "wiggle" room you have.

Thanks.

Graham Rippel.

There should be a little amount of play. I think its normal. The only way I can see excessive play is if the ball in the shifter is worn or either the rear linkage is worn.
GR, how much did the pinion bearing job run you?

Like I said...it was the pinion and the diff carrier bearings .. four in total. I ran me $1600.

I can't wait to show you guys the worst bearing of the bunch. It was so bad!!!!!!

I checked mine, its approx 3/4 of an inch when in gear. What kind of slop are you guys seeing.

I'm getting a bit more than an inch. It was a bit less before the pinion fix.

Could it possibly be that they didn't get the lash right? Did you ask them what it could possibly be?

I had them go over the linkage again...and the result was a slightly worn rear linkage bushing. Explain the lash to me a bit.

Disregards, the lash would only be effected on the wheel and not the shifter.
Sorry.

no worreis raj - here's a question though - i notice that these cars have a lot of movement in the shifter under load change (on and off throttle) - it would seem that the drivetrain moves a lot forward and rear relative to the chassis - has anybody done anything to reduce that? i know the rubber mount in the rear and the motor mounts are pretty soft - i was wondering if anyone had done any firming up, but not so far as solid mounting
