Mirrors are worth a couple of hundred dollars, and 944/964 guys are always looking for them. Why would anyone give them away?? Suppose you'd want them shipped free too?

I've got a wing for ya. Tell me what you feel is a reasonable price. Could I have the tranny, engine, and interior from your car in exchange? Thanks.

I just sold my 968 wing for $340. It was a good deal for the buyer since the 968 wing sells for about $950 from Porsche. I will use the $340 for futher modifications scheduled for my 968.

Send me an e-mail PorscheG96@yahoo.com and make me an offer.

Grant did you sell the spoiler alone for $360 or with the three plastic hatch trim pieces as well?

The large center wing alone sold on ebay for $340. The sale did not include the various other parts. I understand the retail price for the other parts not counting the wing is about $240. The retail price for the wing is about $940.

Grant, I am curios, your signature says "968 Turbo S2 - Spring 2004" is the turbo running behind schedule or was Spring 2004 the start date?

The radiator and pistons designed for your conversion look like great products. I really want to hear more about it someday!

Also, what would S2 stand for? Is it based on an S2 or a 968? BTW, someone got a lot of flak for using 968 turbo S by Porsche, lol.

IIRC Grant went through this once, maybe on the other board. Grant, correct me, but the idea is that this is what he feels this is the natural progression of the Turbo would have been-hence Turbo S2, or maybe .2??

S2 because my turbo conversion would be a step beyond the S, perhaps (who knows) the logical progression Porsche would have taken the 968 had it remained in development. Since my 968 never had numbers on the back, I am not sure if numbers will go on.

Included with my turbo conversion is all that Damian lists, plus (from memory):
blue printing of the engine,
machining the crank for better oil flow to avoid problems of #2 bearing oil starvation,
Heritage radiator,
Heritage/Mahle pistons designed for reduced blow-by,
machining and balancing the fly wheel,
plaining and machining the head
stronger lighter valves,
much larger head bolts,
new Heritage exhaust,
and other stuff
Heritage is also upgrading the suspension including big reds, etc.

I have not yet purchased new wheels. But prefer the same look as the original speedlines for the 968 Turbo.

My 968 is an extra car. I don't recommend this type of work being done unless the owner has other transportation. The delay early on was due to availability of parts, and now my summer travels. The first part problem was the Mahle pistons. Mahle had publicized that they would have turbo pistons available in January 2004. Well, when the pistons arrived, they were not reduced compression pistons. So Heritage came up with the design specifications for a special order Heritage-Mahle piston. I could have pushed to get my 968 completed, but the benefits of delay outweighted my desire for instant gratification - new stuff worth waiting for such as the Heritage radiator, the larger stronger head bolts, etc.

Grant, it sounds like you are going to have an amazing car afterwards. Can I ask approximately what this is costing? I remember you making some posts on 968.net about investing further into your 968 instead of buying a new car so I hope this question is not too forward. I am keeping an eye on all the turbo projects with hopes of following this path in a few years. For this winter I am planning a suspension and wheels upgrade.

Not sure if its public knowledge but Porsche did extensive testing an a 4valve design before they opted for a 2 valve design. There are prototype Porsche Motorsports 16 valve heads floating around if someone is interested. So, this might not have been Porsche's logical progression. Not to say that years down the road it would not have been a possibilty. There is a lot people don't know of about the 968 turbo. It became the car it was after lots and lots of development and testing.

Raj,

How much are those heads, how are they are different?

Should we not consider using them since Porsche did not?

Bruce, no reason not to try something just cause Porsche gave up. Last time I was offered a 16 valve prototype head, it was quoted at $1500 US. They probably have ceramic lining on the exhaust port like the turbo heads. Not sure what else to expect. I never ventured into it as the 16 valve head has its issues and I prefer the 2 valve design.
I wanted to switch to 16 valve when I initially bought my car but I was told by people in the business not to do so. I mean people that could have made money by selling me the parts for a 16 valve setup. Hopefully you get to meet me and see my car someday. Its a very clean setup with an 8 valve head and has a lot of advantages around town. The 16 valve would be the route for a track or a race car but for street driving, 8 valve is the way to go.
