Default 968's at Rennsport Reunion 7

These three beauties in the Corral

This one in the parking lot, and of course mine two rows over in the parking lot

On Saturday I saw two HIGHLY modified ones in the padock. Nobody around to find out more. They did have "revised" bodywork and electronic instrument panels.

Now to put this in perspective, there were 40-50 Porsche 959's there!

Inside the Porsche Classic Pavilion, I spoke to a Porsche Classic Engineer about NLA parts. When I answered his question about for which model, he whipped out his phone to show me pictures of his Amethyst Metallic and FULL leather interior Magenta 968. Now that must be a 1 of 1!? Anyway, I took it as a good omen that a Porsche Classic Engineer is a 968 owner too.

Hey Yogii. Nice to meet you this weekend. My wife has the Amethyst 968. Also in the corral on Saturday was this one in Iris Blue. It was supposed to be the backup 968 in the special display section, but the owner decided not to show it, as did the primary car, so no 968s were represented.

Halfway through, I really regretted not driving mine down. Truth be told, I’m not healthy enough to hike around Laguna Seca for three days. But I did watch the live stream. And one of the announcers commenting on one of the cars shocked me when he said “that color first appeared on the 968.” Looked like Riviera Blue IIRC.

When I went to Monza in 2005, the was a yellow CS parked in one of the lots between the train stop and the track entrance. Continues to be the only one I’ve ever seen IRL.

I forgot to mention that I talked to the couple that owns the red 968. They drove down all the way from B.C. Canada and were heading over to Yosemite after the Reunion.

Also in the corral was this gray and yellow 968 with a turbocharged Audi 5-cylinder engine.

Install looks nicely done. As I’ve posted before, it’s a shame that engine wasn’t a factory option.

Here are the two 968s that were taking part in the PCA Club Race. I believe the red #51 968 was the fastest in its class. On Friday it spun out coming onto the main straightaway and very nearly hit the wall fronting the paddock. I talked to the driver after the race and he laughed it off as 'overzealous driving.'

The unique thing about the blue 968 racer was that the headlights were actually pictures of headlights ... like NASCAR.

Excellent pics guys.. all 968's seem pretty unique these days, in that you rarely see any on the road - especially in the UK.

Thanks for posting the great pics. There were no (zero) Amethyst coupes produced with a full leather interior. We had 5 with partial leather (north american).

Guess the Germans like their full leather interior?

Thanks for the info. I guess my wife's Amethyst coupe is one of the five then. It's a Tiptronic with a partial leather, light gray & black interior. We have sheepskin seat covers ... for comfort and to protect the seat bolsters.

5 referred to the number of Amethyst coupes with Magenta interiors.

Here are the Amethyst coupe interior color totals for you:

5 - Magenta
5 - Light grey/Classic grey
3 - Black
2 - Classic grey
2 - Light grey/Magenta
1 - Cashmere black
1 - Light grey/Black
19 Amethyst coupes for NA

Look, the wife's car is 1 of 1! But you know that. You joined the register in May of 2020 and I sent you a welcome note with the information.

Full leather cars are very rare in North America. Of the 4,242 North American 968s produced only 50 had full leather (20 coupes, 30 cabs). It was a $4000-$5000 option back then compared to $697 for partial leather.

jeff968,

I wonder if that big a premium existed for RoW cars too?
You know, the Germans love their leather.
