Default 968 on bring a trailer question

Why would a 80k 92 coupe need rod bearings, exhaust valve seats snd guides? Is this normal wear and work to be expected at that mileage?

It shouldn't be necessary after 80k, but a bit of wear on the valve guides is not unheard of. It sounds like the engine could have been run on oil with insufficient zink levels or lost oil pressure, and if the rod bearings are in need of replacing, I would be equally worried about camshaft wear, especially broken teeth and undue lobe wear, but only a visual inspection will tell the full story. How were these issued diagnosed? Because if they can be detected without opening the engine, the symptoms are pretty severe which could indicate other undue wear issues.

I asked because I have 50k on my 94 cab and worried this is expected wear. From what I have read these engines are robust

Seems like it had some undocumented frontal impact. Air guide for oil cooler broken up & no batwing. With that nice stack of receipts where is the one to paint the bumper cover. Cant say for sure but the lower radiator support looks slightly different than ones I have removed from 968s. Perhaps that is from 944/951 family as it also has a plastic air piece thats not 968 to my knowledge. Picking Nits, nice looking car but the front end stuff with no disclosure about it seems odd.

To me it seems the front driver front fender has been repainted.

I have 200k miles on my cabriolet and it uses no oil, doesn't smoke, the oil doesn't look hardly at all discolored when due for the next change. This high mileage car is distinctly more powerful and my 54k miles coupe (it does have a chip and filter). Further, I once was at idle at released the clutch and the engine died, ended up being the timing belt. The car had 50k miles on it and I had not changed the belt yet. I also more recently was driving after a timing belt change and some of the repair fell apart and I lost oil pressure. Still no engine damage. These engines are outstanding.

Eyeman, is your car still in que for BAT? Or were you just getting it sorted before submitting it. I have not yet seen it. I wonder how long it takes to get the car listed after submittal.

Still trying to sort out my car Paul. One of the funny problems is it's impossible to keep a car clean enough to photograph in GA pollen this time of year.
