Well Darn it! car started several times earlier in the day, then sat till night. Now won't start. battery is full and dash lights up, I can hear relays clicking when I turn the key, But No starter action at all.

I tried several DME relays to no change.

it doesnt even try.

Can you test the starter itself? And chance the solenoid on the starter is not activating, or is that part of the clicking that you hear?

Cheers

What condition is your GND cable to the engine? Try connecting a booster cable to the block and report back…

Ok just had a chance to check, cables look ok, and I tested the starter in place.

What ever click i hear when going to "start" position sounds like a relay.

Could it be your fuel pump relay?

Clicking.

relay or the pump itself...
That would be my guess.

You asked what the clicking sound was. I think it is your fuel pump.
As others have mentioned, you need to check whether your battery is getting juice from the alternator and whether the starter motor is getting enough juice. I do not know what the correct voltage to your starter should be, sorry...
I believe starter motors are rebuildable.

The owner's book has a great diagram of the various relays in the plastic thing. I do not have access to my book right now.
Wished they had etched the info on the top of the cover. Dumb Germans...

darn, was ready to run this test but apparently the 68 doesnt have this: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...-easy-way.html

I disconnected the ignition switch wire and "hot wired" it and still all I get is the 2 quick clicks from the bottom of the car.

So if it IS the starter solenoid i hear clicking, (and Now I think it is), despite the fact I got the starter spinning when giving it power directly (from my charger), But I couldn't give power to both the Solenoid and the motor at the same time. Could that still mean the starter is the issue?
