Default Rare 968 Spotted

The local Porsche dealership here in Las Vegas is a Classic Porsche dealership. What a Classic dealership does is takes an old Porsche and brings it back to original spec in house with OE parts. Every now and then they will have a cool old model on the rack or when complete, on the sales floor. Today I headed to the parts counter to pick up ATF to service my wife’s 997 cabriolet and AC belt for the 944 Turbo, and there in front of me on the showroom floor was an ultra rare 968 Club sport! Why do I say ultra rare? First, Porsche only made 1,923 world wide. Second, Porsche shipped 0 to the US market. I asked if it would be ok to snap a couple of pictures and was given the ok. What a treat to see a 968 CS in person. The CS was not 100% stock, as it had a partial roll bar and a 968 Turbo S rear wing instead of the stock bridge spoiler. I did not ask what the price was, but I think I left a little drool on the showroom floor before I left.

Very nice - in guards red too (but then I'm biased). Wondering if the 'extras' were factory-added on order - the option codes for these on the hood and boot label will indicate if factory or owner fitted. Here in the UK I believe the CS outsold the standard coupe in '95 - it's final year of production. For '94 only 306 UK Sport versions were produced from the same CS line but with Lux options added back in (elec windows, tailgate release, mirrors and lightweight Recaro cloth seats).

Wonder what the dealer asking price is/was?

This CS is left hand drive so it was not a UK destination car. It would be interesting to learn more about it and the options. I could get the vin from the windshield and the parts counter could tell me what options and what the port of entry was. It is very strange going to the dealership now and seeing empty lots. This dealership has very few cars due to the chip shortage. Used cars are going for crazy high prices here in the US. I drove my 944 Turbo to pick up the parts and someone pulled it to the curb where I was part and offers me $40k for my car. Albeit my turbo is very nice and is probably worth this, I I declined and told him the turbo is a dead guy car. The next owner will only get it when the current owner dies.

Love the 944 Turbo. Would like one next. Before my 968 I was offered a nice 944 Silver Rose as a curve ball when looking for a 968. Put off initially as the price was same as the lovely Sport I picked up. Bad move, doh!

When I went to Monza in 2006, there was a Speed Yellow CS in the parking field I walked through from the train to my seat at the first chicane. Only one I’ve ever seen IRL.

Im glad Gaudin is a Classic dealer. It’s where I buy most of my OEM parts.

Very neat. Porsche classic did a video on the restoration of a red CS. I wonder if this is the same car and it is on "tour"? And as noted, when it came to ROW 968s the CS actually outsold the regular 968 in 94 and 95. Cheap price point. Post the VIN if you get it. Thx
