Default Performance 968 Ignition Wires

Does anyone know who can make custom ignition wires for the 968? I contacted a couple of suppliers with no results. The problem seems to be the availability of our spark plug connectors.

If you can find a spare set of wires, they should be able to use your connectors to make wires.
Tate, let me know if you need some spares.

I was always led to believe that Porsche OEM wires were the best, at least for 911s.

Out of curiousity, what is it that you think you will improve on over the OEM wires? A good set of OEM wires work VERY well. Of course, they aren't cheap...

Scott:
The thing is that I made a turbo conversion on my car, and installed a new engine management system (Tec 3) included a crank trigger ignition system. The ignition coils were not installed in the same position as the factory distributor, so I need longer cables with different connectors. In addition I prefer a 8mm cable for the high discharge capabilities of the ignition coils. I'll probably end repositioning the ignition coils to the factory distributor location. This at least will allow me to use factory cables and install the coils side connectors.

Raj:
The problem with the factory spark plug connector is that it is molded with the wire in place. I try to disassembled one but it is a solid plastic piece.

Any suggestion?

Aren't you using a 2 valve head? If that is the case then you should be using 951 wires and the connectors on those are removeable unless something changed recently.
As far as the Tec 2 is concerned, not sure why you would need adapters. There is a better solution that most people don't think of and its factory as well.

I'm using the 16V head. Can you explain about the other option you mentioned?

Well, what does a Tec3 use? 60-2 formula to calculate speed/reference. How many teeth does a 968 or S2 flywheel have? 60 with 2 missing positions. So essentially people can just use an S2 flywheel if they want to keep single piece flywheel or go to 968 setup if they want DMF.
No need to buy custom adapters if you are using a 60-2 standalone setup.
Makes sense?
Oh BTW, I mistook you for Tate, sorry. Would I happen to know you by any chance?
Also, I have been assisting a friend in doing a 16 valve turbo conversion. We are considering stand alone at some point. Would you mind talking about it a little offline?
We are pretty much done and are just sorting a few issues. We are currently using a 968 DME.
I can be reached at r_datta@yahoo.com.
Regards.

You are correct. The 968 flywheel is a 60 minus 2, but I run the Tec 3 and the factory DME at the same time. This because the Cabrio have a couple of interlocks for the electric top operation and I don’t want to mess with that. So the factory DME will be maintain control of everything (instrument panel, electric top, security system etc.) and the Tec 3 will do the engine management. Due to this I installed a crank trigger kit from Clewett Engineering for the Tec 3. And boy what a quality and well-engineered product it is. I have been in this turbo conversion crusade for nearly two years and this crank trigger kit is one of the "few" items that I buy that really satisfied me. Compared to this kit, the other crank trigger kits advertised from our well known "tuners" are a piece of crap. For the factory DME to control the Top actuation and the instrument panel, the flywheel magnetic sensor, speedometer sensor, coolant sensor, oil pressure sensor etc, have to remain connected to it.

Raj, I'll give you a call to discuss this in detail, I have your PH# because I was the one that purchase your splitter. Remember?

Yes, Richard at Clewett makes quality stuff. Did you get your TEC system from him as well?

Interesting solution using factory Mototronic to control your "mundane" functions and stand-alone for timing and fuel. And all this on a cab!

Where do you live?

Matt:
I live in Puerto Rico. I was looking for a 968 for a couple of years. Unfortunately the 968 are very rare here in Puerto Rico. And brings one from the States will probably be to expensive for me. Then the opportunity arises when my brother told me about a 1995 968 cabrio that was on a repossessed car lot with an overheated engine. I bought it very cheap. The car is in very good condition except for the engine. I have to change pistons and rods for turbocharging anyway.

Regarding the Tec 3 I didn’t buy it from Richard Clewett because I didn’t know about his business at that time. I expect no problem with the two ECU's strategy, but at this time I didn’t tested it yet.

Did you find wires? I have a set of OEM's in the bag for the 968. I bought them thinking they would fit a 944S2 and I could save some money. Wrong. So they have been sitting in my garage for a year now. BTW, last I checked the plug side connectors (Beru) were $21.95 each. I never found a price for the distributor cap side.

Craig:
Do you talk about a complete set of wires or the spark plug connectors? Can you tell me who give you the Beru plug side connector quotation? Thanks.
