Stock on the side off the road
Good day gentlemen,
Somebody from North Carolina post a thead about his futur road trip to Atlantic Canada. The 968 member just call me and he got a problem with is car. I can't go and help him until the 15. Just try to help him to supply information to him. The closiest Porsche Dealer is 5hours away.
What he told me: The front pulley look like it loose and he got no oil pressure and alternator on the dash.
I suspect the front pulley may have come lose. He may have bent the tensionner from the alternator.
To repair: What will he need and what should be the torque on the front bolt which it holding the pulley?
Marc

He will need a flywheel lock for the 968 (different from the 944 tool), a 24 mm socket, a short extension, some half inch drive sockets (17 and 19 mm) to remove the starter, 13 mm wrench to remove battery terminal connector, and a torque wrench that will go to 155 lb ft torque.
His best bet is to be flat bed towed to an independent Porsche shop and have it repaired there.
Big bucks for a five hour tow, but it needs to be done properly.
Alternator tensioner is probably OK, but should have one available if necessary.
I always carry a bunch of cash with me on road trips.

Thanks for the reply. I good certainly help him with that task and all tools except the flywheel lock. Do you have any option to lock the cranck other wise?

Not really. It's probably the reason he is on the side of the road now... (i.e. someone not using the flywheel lock.)

Southern Quebec here. Near the Maine - New Hampshire - Vermont border. If he is near me still, please PM me. Don't forget it is Canadian's Thanks Giving w-e here so shops will be closed on Monday. I know of a few indy shops here in Sherbrooke that could help.
