No affiliation or direct knowledge of this ad I noted last week.

Seems a little high to this bench racer...I'd ask for the intake and see if the TT was good (not the split version).

Yes the shop manual even refers to certain model rods that should be replaced on a tear down or rebuild. Never heard them referred as gumby rods
Jay whats the manifold difference you speak of and how would you know?

Yeah I'd ask for the chassis VIN on that $8K pelican kit, and how he knows it was babied. If the story is true the car went from being babied to a Turbo or V8 race engine/trans. Oh also it was babied but the car had a strut bar.
1R rods were used in a variety of engines, I think they turn up in S2 engines but have not been problematic there. In the 968 and 928GT there have been failures and as per the factory are to be replaced if you are in there. The 2R rods have more meat at the transition from big-end to beam and those have not AFAIK bent in normal use.
My theory is that the issue is detonation related but some say RPM. Bad gas on a hot day, something like that IMO.

Three Wheelin'
I have a very low mileage since rebuilt 968 head, brand new porsche cams with low mileage at time of top end rebuild, tensioner, wiring harness, dme, intake manifold, exhaust, airbox, covers, all acc and timing pieces everything needed to make a 968 engine just need a shirt block! Asking $2k shipped for it all. Thanks Shawn
