Porsche recommends full engine rebuild at 60K. Check to see if one was ever done. there was a 91 turbo that sold for mid 20's, iirc, a few months back. that one had 120k and looked pretty good from the pictures.
with the depressed economy and the cost of a rebuild, your guess is as good as any. my guess would be high teens to very low 20's. I'm guessing that any offer will be a good one to the seller.

BS... I believe there are several owners on this site with far more miles on their cars that are enjoying outstanding performance and drivability from them.
If I really thought these cars were only good for 60K, I wouldn't own one even if it just had a rebuild! I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but, I wouldn't own any car produced by a company with that little confidence in their product.

Two rebuilds... that sucks! I would think with the exception of the random component failure, there is no reason to believe these engines have a 60K life span. Assuming preventative maintenance, routine oil changes, valve adj etc, shouldn't these engines live twice that long at least?

Mine had 93K, I did 25K miles in 2.5 years and I tracked it as well. No engine rebuild in sight, but then I sold it....
PS: I didn't rebuild the engine, but I did the shocks, the power steering, the heating & aircon, oil pipes, fuel pipes, etc. etc.

I agree and had already responded. There is nothing stating that the car is required to have a rebuild at any interval. Has to be the most outlandish comment made by any mechanic to a customer if this guy is telling the truth. He needs to find a new mechanic fast.
