Default 3.6 Turbo ... What's it worth? Collectible?

Update: I was able to convert the avi video to mpeg fromat which reduced it to under 100mb so I have loaded it to youtube

Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTQnkwIo5VA

Interested to hear what everyone thinks ...

I recorded a clip on the 3.6 Turbo from 'Appraise This Car' on Discovery HD from today's (1/3/07) episode ..... unfortunately it is almost 2GB in size and I don't have enough bandwidth available on my website to have it downloaded a bunch of times

So if any one has enough bandwidth available so that everyone can view it, or if anyone has any other suggestions about where to host it, I will gladly ftp it to them or post it up

I think everyone will find it quite interesting and it will certainly open up some debate on the subject!

Mark

Interesting, glad you posted it. This car belongs to someone on Rennlist, can't remember who but they posted a while back about this segment.

Glad to see they got most of their facts correct. Everyone has their opinion I would rate the car closer to a B myself but have no idea how they are using for a rating system. I agree they will hold or gain value. I never think you will see the numbers a 73 RS is seeing but we may see them worth what they sold for new one day depending on condition and what tomorrow brings.

To be honest I doubt any car made within the last 30 years will truly be collectible the way the older cars are but I could be wrong.

I would agree that they will likely hold their value +/- a little bit. But I do think that the very low volume cars (like the Turbo Ss) will appreciate over the next few years.

We can also debate if it is appreciation or devaluation of the $. Money buys less and less each year.

There was a good article on Porsche values in the November 2006 Panorama. As Anthony stated, the devaluation of the US dollar muddies the water a lot. I have been looking for pre-94 964 turbos again and have noticed the asking prices for 91-93 turbos seem to have gone up in the last year, mostly in the high $40's. Just saw a 87 slant nose delete for $45k in showroom condition with 14 k miles. A great garage queen but not sure if the condition warrants the price you might expect to pay for an excellent G50 964 turbo. Since there are so many neat mods available for early Porsche models, the availability of pure stock Porsches becomes a premium for someone who really wants pure stock. IMO

Very interesting point. Take into consideration the time value of money over 13 years and the original MSRP is a lot higher.

The new price in 1994 for a 964T 3.6 in Australia was $299,000 AUD !

Keep in mind that we have very high taxes on cars here to "protect" local car producers and also to make some money for the Govt.

(New Price for a 997 TT here is $320,000 AUD - ($250K USD).

I paid less than half of that in todays dollars for mine - $300K back in 1994 was a heck of a lot of money...

Local car producers?? Mitusbishi, Toyota etc. why protect the Japanese just because they build plants there (and what's a Holden anyway, sounds Aussie ... oh wait ... no ... it's a GM).

Badly reasoned and poorly implemented protectionism is making your supercars more expensive ... I'd write a letter!

Totally agree...The best option is to move to the USA...

And I can take a classic 1968 Holden HK Monaro with me...Should draw quite a crowd at all the classic car shows !

Interesting, was Holden once an independent? I mean built their own design motors and chassis?
