Default Strange sound from turbo

My turbo started smoking after being caught in standstill traffic and heatwave where headers turned slightly amber, oil temp went to 10 o'clock and oil pressure dropped to slightly below 1, so i had to hold the throttle slightly open to keep idle speed above 1k rpm to maintain oil pressure above 1.

Anyway, turbo has been repaired and no more smoke. The one thing I notice that I never noticed before is when I shut down my engine there is this lingering sound that is soft but sounds like a electric motor winding down. It's propably the turbo blades just spinning down but I never did notice this sound before

Is this normal? Turbo works perfectly otherwise in normal driving

Remember to let your engine idle for a minute so you're not coming straight off the turbo. Does it still happen then?

What oil were you using when your turbo failed ?

Sure it's not just the tic tic crac crac noise ? A policeman accused me of speeding once because my carrera did this when I shut it off. The police ask you to turn off the car when they stop you... I do think he was serious

no it's not the tic tioc crac crac sound. It's like an aircraft engine when it shuts down...like a turbine spinning down but it's subtle. I was/am using Mobil 1 5W-50

Never had this sound, are you sure it's from the turbo, you have the heater blowers back there as well ?

Just guessing its the turbo as I cant think of anything else. Not heater fans as those have been removed. Going to hoist car up tomorrow and have closer listen to where its coming from

Pzull,
I recall you had some mods done recently. How is it going?

Yup, done. except for fine tuning of ECU which will happen next week when my tuner flies in. Have already posted initial thoughts somewhere on this board. Will post update, dynochart and soundclips after the tuning

Update for all that might have this problem in future.

I thought and was told nothing is wrong to have that sound but when we took out the intercooler to access something we needed to access for another purpose, we found oil everywher in the pipes after the compressor, intercooler and throttle body....loads of it. The turbo on compressor side was in a small pool of oil (which may be the cause of the sound as the oil and turbine interacted)

It was oil seals that were not fulfilling their job. Anyway replaced with a used yurbo for the moment just for tuning and will put in a new one in next couple of weeks
