More progress for this week:
-Rear glass fitted. It is a thin glass defrost-less window out of a 993 GT2 (it seems). It is a tiny bit larger than the 964 glass it replaces, which is good, as it pushes the seal further around and prevents the seal falling in the opening as it did before. And it is much lighter. And it looks cooooool. :-)
-Satin black painted on the lower parts of the body plastic parts. There was an opportune discussion about the position of the shoreline on here, and I asked it to be put on the upper edge of the groove.
Next week I can pick up the parts, and likely the following the car itself. Only for it to go into storage, as the build of my garage/workshop will be underway very soon.
Paintwork is officially FINISHED. Car is under a cover at the body shop, waiting for me to pick it up (with a trailer, as it is pretty much apart).
I won't be able to do any serious work, since the construction of my long planned garage has begun this week. I hope to bring it home in 2 months.
In the meantime, I have taken home some small parts to assemble.
Mirrors are cleaned, waxed, protected and assembled. The electric (mirror) part will wait for the wire loom to be fitted, which will be after the doors are reassembled. Still it is good to know that the pivot is working correcty, which it had never done before, with the cone spacers missing and the detents in the foot worn off. The driver side shell is a new part (to the car, bought used in A+ condition).
The fuel door got its new sticker on. The small things that bring a smile....
6 months have passed. It took the construction crew 4 months more than planned to finish the garage build (Don't get me started…). I could finally bring the 964 in today, to start the reassembly.
I had some time between garage building projects, so started on the car. First box on the shelves says "door, left". It makes sense because what I put in the door will not be in the way like a bumper or a seat, and I needed to put the door check straps in to avoid overextension damage.
But first, the wiring loom. It goes through the door jamb via 2 offset openings. I had to dismantle the smaller of the 2 connectors and tape it along the large one, to snake the bundle through. After som e time and choice words, it was through. The interior light switch was next. I had cut the wire in the footwell area, and soldered connectors in, as it was the simplest way. Even so, passing the wire through was not easy. A new rubber on the door switch, and the wiring was done into the door.
Now the check strap could go in. It has 2 strengthening plates to avoid ripping the inner door sheetmetal.
And to finish it off, the handle. It has wear marks but is functional and after a good cleaning is ready for service.
