having spent sometime reading through posts about tyre sizes on C4's, I just went outside to take a look at mine.
Currently fitted with the following.
Rear- 255/40-17 Pirelli P6000's
Front 215/45-17 Pirelli P7000's
both have heaps of tread left, but I am now wondering weather this is a good setup on my 1990 C4.
I could really use some decent input here this evening, since I will probably be getting them changed tommorow.
For most day to day use, what make and tyre size is recommeded by you guys .
Thanks
RCR
I used to run Michelin's with 205/50 & 255/40 on 17's and was not happy with both the wear rate & understeer produced with the 205's. I recently fitted Toyo Proxes T1-S's with 225/45's up front and 255/40's on the rear. Much better IMHO & only £420 for all corners (around £200 cheaper then the Michelins were!). Turn in seems much sharper.
If you're going to go this route, you may want to fit 5mm spacers up front to avoid tyre rub unless you've got the larger, RS steering stops fitted.

Porsche went to 10mm steering stops starting in 1992, to accomodate 17" wheels - they weren't just for the RS. The Porsche part number for the 10mm steering stops is 964.347.325.02, and you need one for each side.
I also run 225/45 and 255/40 17s. I have 3mm spacers in the rear to prevent rub on the oil line on the right side. No rub problems up front, but this definitely varies car to car. Right now I running Kumho Ecsta MX and am very happy with them, both for their price and their performance on the street and the track (autox and big track).

The problem with your tyres RCR apart from the fact I cannot stand 215s as a tyre size is that you have mixed and matched tyres. You must have the same brand, same age, same tread pattern on all four wheels.
The best 17 inch combinations are 225/245 or 225/255 on a C4.
As for what tyres I always advocate the best which means tyres which have been tested on a Porsche. The best value for money tyres I can recommend are the Toyo T1S Proxes.

As for the tyre situation, the current fitments were allready on the car when I purchased it. I have ordered 4 toyo's as recommded, ready for fitting mid week.
many thanks for all replies so far, and thanks to horst for those specs, I will be using them in conjuction with info I received from the tyre centre.
I'm also shortly to need new rubber all round, currently running 205/50R17 and 255/40R17 on Cup3's on my "new" '90 964C2, currently on ContiSportContacts at the rear and SportContacts at the front I think (the fronts I think are much older than the rears).
On my previous Posh (968CS) I moved from Yoko A008's to Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's, on advice from Callum Lokie who runs them on his 944S2, and was very happy with them in all regards both on road and track, wet or dry, and about half the price of competing S-02's or P-Zeros that I was looking at at the time.
I'd like to know if anyone has any experience of running them on a 964 rather than on the 50/50 944/968 cars, and what the perceived benefits of moving to 225/45 on the 964 up front are (my 968CS also ran 225/45s - but then it didn't have such a large rearward weight bias).
I have been running Ecsta 712's on my C2 since March 2002. I find them much better than Contis that I had before and yes I think the performance is great in both wet and dry. I haven't been able to compare them against Bridgestones or whatever but I am very hhppy and the price is great. I need new rears shortly - so total about 10000 miles on the rears.
