There are two types of targa owners. Those who adore them, and those who compromised because they couldn't find a coupe within their budget. Same could probably be said for cabs.
Not true for me. I wanted a cab, not a coupe, because my 911 was (and is) a fun special occasion car and I like to drive with the top down. At the time that I bought my 964 (16 years ago), there wasn't much difference in value between coupes and cabs, but cost wasn't a consideration for me.
As was noted previously, Targas have historically been viewed as a compromise between a coupe and a cab - not a real convertible with a fully reclining top and also not secure, leakfree and stiff like a coupe. For that reason, Targas were then cheaper than coupes and cabs, although that has apparently since changed,
I just bought mine (UK based) and it is in my opinion in pretty good condition. I paid bottom end £24,000 ($35k). Mine was one of the cheapest in the UK (believe me I looked hard)!.
Generally here they go between £30k upwards ($44)k.
Some Targas are now well into £40k. But mileage has to be under 100k and good service history.

I'll sell mine for 30K Gbp, 57K Miles, ROW Targa
(I secretly want to finish my rusty pile o crap '69 912 into a retro race rod. Trade a perfectly good car for 3+ years of welding, grinding, aggrivation, sign me up!!)
