I have owned many 964 coupes including Turbos. The 964 is a great and durable platform . It has the classic 911 look with more modern technology. When built as a Targa it exemplifies uniqueness of the heritage.
Is a coupe tighter with less chassis twist?...Sure .People who want an open car with a coupe like feel don't really care that they are giving up a little sharpness for that versatility. I love the Targa as do many others.
964 Targa will surely outpace values of coupes in coming years as collector cars.
Buy them now while can afford them.

Right. Because earlier Targa models have shown such valuation growth with respect to same year coupes... Oh, wait. That isn't true...
Besides the Soft Window Targa, of which ~700 were made, all other Targa models will under-perform same year Coupes. Not that Targas are bad, but they are a compromise model. IMO, Coupes will always outperform them. Additionally, IMO, Cab's will ultimately out-perform Targas as well.

100% agree. Targa's just look better. They are more unique and their production numbers are so low.
964's were the 'black sheep', and then, lightbulb! Same thing will happen for Targa's.

Supply and demand.
Just because there is a limited supply does not automatically equate to increase in value. The increase in value is when there is a greater demand than supply.
True there is a smaller supply of Targas but historically there has been less demand vs. coupes. Will this somehow change in the future .... your guess is as good as mine.
As these cars age and there is less supply overall IMHO you will see prices reflect a specific car and buyer vs. a trend. By that I mean there will be a greater variance in prices between different 964s because as the prices get higher and higher the buyers who are willing to pay the big $$$$$ will also demand that they get the car they want.
We've seen lots of this type of discussion before ......
C2 vs C4
Coupe vs Convertible vs Targa
Manual vs Auto
Black vs Red vs another colour
89 to 91 vs 91 to 94
Not to mention the rear window is a work of art. Show me another sub 100K car with a rear window as unique and as beautiful... can't be found.
I wanted that rear screen in my life. So, I bought a targa.
I know that I'm in a tiny minority when I say that I far prefer the shape and style of the targa to the coupe. Furthermore, I wouldn't even contemplate buying a cabriolet 964.
Targas have always had a much smaller, but loyal connoisseur appeal. So less people like them, and far less were built. Net net, I imagine this adds up to a similar supply/demand imbalance as coupes and cabs. My guess is if you liked it enough to buy one, someone else will too.

Well said. I'm sure the current 991 targa production numbers are way lower than the comparable model coupes and cabs.
It's just a matter of time and people realizing that Targa's are rare and cool and beautiful.
Just like with all 964's. It took people a long time to come to the realization that 964's are what they are. It's always better NOT to move with the rest of the herd. People who realized that 964's were something special were rewarded, likewise, the same thing will happen for Targa 964's.

Deep down inside we all know you wish you had a coupe.
