Default gutters delete question

Hi guys ,
I am getting ready for the sunroof delete, I am also thinking delete the gutters as well, is there any downsides ?
for those of you who had it done, a part from the esthetic and weight saving side is there any other positive points , like wind noise reduction ..?
thanks

Yeah, the downside is that if it's raining or there is water on the roof and you open the window, all of it will go inside. Not worth it IMO and frankly, it looks weird to me.

Im with you on this one. And if you ever want to use a roof rack that option is out too.

For me I've always loved the 911 rain gutters. It's one of my favorite things on a 911

Spotted at RUF in Pfaffenhausen when I visited October 2012. I love it.

Hi guys,
Thanks for your opinion..
Thanks for the pictures Vandit ;-) !!
Well aesthetically I think it's looking great, about the rain ...she obviously going to curse me coming out of the car, specially if she's just been to the hairdresser :-(....
The roof rack is an option, I didn't though about it , but how often....maybe to bring tires at track days.... If there any aero and handling gain, and noise reduction it may worth it ....
What do you think ?

You re right , ha ha ,
at 105 dbl It's loud enough, plus I am fitting RS carpets and removing the sound proof in the cabin ,
Wind noises are different, but I would not only decide up on that ...

Love the rain gutter delete.

How about a happy medium? I used the ruf a-pillar aero trim to fill in that portion of the gutters, but still have them the rest of the length of the body. Trying to find a good pic for you

959 also has the gutters 'deleted' , looks great imho. Downside of deleting the gutters is that it takes a skilled bodyworker to perform the work, remove 3" of gutter....seam weld, remove another 3"....and so on, and so on. This process potentially introduces a lot of heat leading to warping...and a lot of filler to smooth things out. It might also introduce a real rust nest if not properly treated from the inside since the roof panel is prone to have significant condensation form on the inside.

I use these on my track car and they actually do help with cross winds

Shaved looks great and cleans up the lines of the car. If resale is your goal I would not do it. I shaved them on my 72 project car.

Default Like the "shaved" look, but . . . . . .

I would question whether removing the rain gutter does not also reduce the structural strength of the roof, particularly in the case of a roll over. How much reduction, I couldn't guess but it seems quite likely regardless. It's significant to note that Ruf's cars with the shaved rain gutters also have an internal roll cage built into his cars. So my point would be that shaving the rain gutters off a 911 would be far more sensible provided a roll cage was also going to be part of the final build.

I like them and think the smoothed look goes well with the 964 shape

Only question to ask yourself is will you ever want to return your car back to as built as I know one 930 owner who wishes he had never deleted them.
