I'm getting ready to seal my case and have been reviewing this thread whilst making my plan of attack. I'm wondering if you have any thoughts as to how your sealing strategy has worked out for you. Any problem areas in the last 2.5 years since she fired up? For that matter in terms of the overall rebuild (sealing aside) are there any points that you would sharpen so to speak?
Also- again- thanks for the fantastic documentation. Its really invaluable to another DIY'er

Good timing. The short answer is that with 10,000km (6,000 miles) of road and track usage since the rebuild/reseal, there is not a single drop of oil on the garage floor and/or material oil usage. However that doesn’t mean the engine is absolutely clean.
Soon, I will have the current engine build owner look at my engine on the lift to see what isn’t dry so he can make some decisions about cylinders/heads. His current thought is to keep the original 1990 parts and lap the cylinder / head interface. I will document what we find. I have no business or reputation to protect. It is what it is.
Re the thread. The dirty secret is that I mostly do it for my own records and I’m going back through my posts to see how I did it last time!
Pete, here is a short video of where the rod clearance is at right now.
One thing you will notice here is that I have put plastic tubing over each rod. This makes it easy to move the crankshaft and stops the rods hitting the case when assembling the parts

Assembly lube so more viscous than normal oil. That might slow it down a bit.
You are making me jealous John. I have yet to crack open a case on a 964. It is a mysterious space for me. One day.
There are some special parts in there e.g. the crankshaft.
I myself have yet to do the rods on an engine so there’s always some thing to look forward to. To be honest neither engine I’ve done/am doing had any real need to split the case but it’s a case of ‘while you are in there’
I’ll try to take a video this time of the case joining process, just for something different. I think it can be done as time lapse on an iPhone?
The piston squirters passed the test and the engine owner said let’s close this case.

Apart from one mis-step where we installed the oil pump before attaching the IMS to it, it went like clockwork with a good looking squeeze at the case joint. My through bolt o ring install method was very efficient. I’m sure I can still improve on the speed but it was within the supposed 40 minute cure time for the 574
That is looking good enough for me. Of the leakage that is there any indication of where it's coming from?

It’s not immediately clear but i suspect it’s the Cylinder/Head join seepage that Porsche fixed with gaskets in the later engines. With the current build we are going to lap the joint and keep the early cylinders.
More parts fitted i.e. oil fittings, oil pressure relief valves, IMS cover.
The IMS seal must have leaked in the past given the amount of sealant. There doesn’t seem to be any issue with the area or cap so I simply relied on the new oring and some Dow 111 to seal it properly.

i notice many 964 owners doing fog light deletes for a brake cooling ducts. Read a few of the Threads and it seems only suited for tracking the car. Or are we all just nut jobs looking for things to fix?
I’m doing concours light at the Club Picnic so time to fix small things that have been annoying me. One is the left hand rear indicator which had dirt inside the lens. Long story short I decided to reskin it again and stuffed up. I used a plastic glue similar to super glue and the fumes affected the plastic. Apparently the same fumes are used in crime scenes to show fingerprints. I have new aftermarket lenses coming. I’m not going to reskin another set.
