Yes, I have the manual (wasn't much use for the fuel tank removal). I'm reading it now.

It's a Denso 10PA15C, specifically. I rebuilt the 10PA17C on my Mercedes (used PAG oil instead of mineral since it's R134a) and that effectively solved my aircon temperature issues (or lack thereof). I cleaned all of the old oil off of every internal part and added fresh PAG into the top once it was back together.
Thanks for the info. My plan is to replace the evaporator and then get an expert in to do the flush etc. it may be brand new. I'll find out soon enough. I don't want to go back in a second time on this.

When the engine was rebuilt by the OPC in 2013 they left it out in the rain for months. This may have contributed to this. I replaced all of the felt etc when the glass out respray was done in late 2015. IIRC it was sources from a vintage VW parts supplier, as it's the same material just a lot cheaper.

Reading the manual I need to ensure the system is free of gas before disconnecting parts. Given I'm a responsible type I've arranged for a mobile technician to come and sort that. This particular person is well versed in 964 air con and suggested we pressure test the system before pulling the evaporator.

BTW: When I told him I'd already removed the fuel tank and firewall cover so was well advanced he laughed at me.

Good advice. Got any more details about that felt? Part number or similar? I'll try a local vw crew myself...

This is what I have on my email. The memory is a bit hazy so don't take this as gospel

Felts here:
http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails....C16-141-479-LR (2 required)
Clips here:
http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails....WC-141-837-487 (12 required)
Would also buy this for your door / bonnet seals
http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails....ode=C16-1500BK

You'll see that the clip link leads to a no page. I'll check my orders. I think I went elsewhere for those as the part numbers equated to VW part numbers. Good luck.

http://www.jbugs.com/product/141-479-L-R.html This seems like the same thing (no affiliation). IIRC the felt strip had to be cut to size as the 911 door is shorter.

The door has gone to the body shop. We’re hopeful that it can be fixed with no metal work, just some careful welding.

Another arrival this week was the Classic 9 interior fixings kit. I want the right items in the right place and am sick of ordering Porsche parts at great expense to find out they are chrome and therefore useless in a 964 interior.

This is great John, when I re carpted my car I noticed most of the screws were damaged and chipped. How much is the kit?

NZ$127 including freight from the US. It took about 10 days to arrive. Some of the items are generic, others are difficult to find.

I did the same for mine, but went to the local Würth dealer. The interior looks much better than the simple change of screws would suggest. And I have enough for both cars as well (and spares).

I’ve already replaced carpet on a 964, but I sold that car and now want the same quality on my keeper car. Thankfully with this car the soundproofing doesn’t need replacing. Now to wait for Lakewell to send the new carpet kit.
