Default BLACK BETTY - An obssesion with Porsche

I've been a bit quiet of late here, but thought I would share what I've been up to recently.

As some of you know I started building my first 964 'Black Betty' quite a few years ago. Here are a few pics of her,

Day 1

Earlier this year I picked up an Anniversary edition. 911 of these factory wide body cars were made to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the 911. 42 came to the UK in RHD. Susie Q (named after the song) is 1 of 12 UK RHD Polar Silver cars.

I picked her up from Phil Raby of Philip Raby Porsche, a well known dealer and Porsche journalist in the UK of Total 911 fame. As expected Phil was a joy to deal with and I was only too happy to give the business to friend.

The day I picked her up

Sure enough I took her for a good thrashing.

Sure enough, I had plans. The objective was to create an RSR look with great handling within a comfortable Anniversary package.

Parts arrived

BBS E28 Mag wheels were chosen for their light weight, wider to give me fatter tyres. KWV3s dropped in to improve the ride to my taste and thicker H&R anti roll bars to eliminate roll. For Susie Q I decide to pick up on the Polar Silver's blue hues... as so chosen to detail the car with Porsche Riviera Blue parts.

The rear wheels currently have 20mm adapters in there. I'll be rebuilding the wheels to get rid of them. Lots more dish to come.

The mechanical part of the build is now complete. Next she'll be going in for: some paint, rebuilt wheels, more riveira detailing with seat belts and rev gauge to match. I'll also be dropping her a few more MMs when all is complete.

The final touch will be

My next project is restoring my Summer Yellow RS light weight, named Ella after Fitzgerald. She was originaly supplied to the previous UK owner by Thomas Schmidt and is belived to be 1 of 6 in this Porsche special order colour. Lots of parts have come in including a rare set of BBS 3 piece wheels I'm refinishing in matte charcoal black.

A throw back came in the form of a UK RHD 911T from 1973, one of the last supplied. She features a 2.4 E cammed engine, uprated Bilsteins and 3.2 Carrera brakes.

A real revelation to me. Absolutely sensational to drive. Sensory overload - light, nimble, peppy engine, awesome steering feel and a delicious gearbox. What a revelation these early cars are to drive. The reason why people first fell in love with the 911.

She's named Penny after Penny Lane by the Beatles.

In other news Betty is evolving considerably.

I hope that you enjoyed the reading. Happy to answer any questions as ever. Stay tuned for all the latest on my Porsche obsession.

Well now I'm extremely jealous. Nice collection Frank!

Is the oil pressure not a bit low on the "Glorious roads" photo?

Great looking car(s). Got any videos? Curious as to why you changed the wide body rear trailing arms for NB items? To fit wider wheels/tires?

absolutely stunning Frank! Love the riveria blue accents.

2 questions:
1) Are those 993 TT brakes up front or oem w/ just drilled rotors?

2) Why'd you decide to use a long neck G-pipe over the shorty? Do you plan to upgrade the chip? Sound clips would be much appreciated

Damn Frank, I had no idea your collection was this big. I thought you just had Black Betty.

It's up to temp and at idle. Depending on the weight and type of oil it's currently running, it might be within normal range.

Yup, 3.8 RS and RSR style. I love the look w/ wide arches, narrow arms, and fat lips.

Wow, lots of envy over here. Quite the collection Frank. Out of curiosity, are there any other pros/cons to doing NB trailing arms, other than to get a deeper dish?
