Strong fuel smell from fuel tank area

When I open my front hood, there's a really strong fuel smell especially if the hood hasn't been opened for a few days. Fumes accumulate and when I lift up the hood, it's a VERY noticeable and strong smell. Any ideas on where I should be looking at or what to look for? No visible fuel leaks or line cracks that I can see from around the tank. Car is a 90 C4. Thanks.

Had the same issue and noticed when I stored a pullover in the front trunk for a few days. After replacing the complete fuel filler neck the issue is gone for me - interestingly that part has been modified multiple times according to PET and the new part seemed more stable. Installation was not difficult.

Yea, next time you fill up, feel around the bottom of the fuel filler neck, where the two hoses leading to the tank connect to the neck.
My issue got exponentially worse after I uninstalled/reinstalled the fuel filler neck when I did my evaporator replacement.
I bought the 993.201.043.00 replacement piece, which should be the latest and greatest iteration, I just haven't had an opportunity to install it.
Not running carpet in the front tub is a good idea when troubleshooting this issue.

Strong fuel smell from fuel tank area
Just installed the fuel filler neck and that helped quite a bit. Got the part from automobile Atlanta (no affiliation). It's not cheap but is easy to install. I leave the carpet out and usually leave the hood open to dissipate the smell. It is getting better with time.
