Kris, I can't offer any advice but have you talked to Mike Courtney @ CTS?

thanks Laurent. CTS did the alignment. I will go back in and ask that they take another look once I can be sure there is no binding in the steering.
Happy Friday all!

Kris, just for reference, I'm running about -1.5 degree of camber in the front. I don't drive the car enough to worry about how that'll affect my tire wear. It seems like there is always some new tire out every other year that I want to try anyway. I also use my 16" rims for the street so the tires are a bit cheaper.

Camber doesn't affect tire wear, it is the toe angle.

Thanks Hal. I am going to have CTS adjust the camber and caster to a bit more aggressive set-up. I am not worried about tire wear. I want better handling and easier steering(if the two can coexist?).

As long as your toe is close to zero, you can run a good amount of camber w/o much compromise in tire wear, especially on the front axle (on a RWD car). Taking corners quickly also helps even out tire wear across the tire when you run decent camber, plus you get the benefit of additional lateral grip.

I think you'll be happier with a more aggressive set-up. I can't comment on the manual steering rack as I haven't driven a 964 with one. You may want to see if some of the NordSterners that have (had) an RS America can drive your car to see if it feels "normal".

Hal,
Good advise. I have that in my plan. There is another member who has one and we are going to do the comparison.
Thanks!

FWIW, the rack was factory new when I installed it - still had clean paper tags ant the original plastic over-boots. I did turn it lock-to-lock before installation. Effort was heavy but not alarmingly so. Mechanical damage would typically cause binding at one place or once per turn. The effort was even from lock-to lock. Older racks will loosen up, and will feel lighter. Did you find the problem?

Hey Springer3
How have you and the Mrs been? Good to hear from you!
I have not found a/the problem. Not much tracking so it has not been a priority. On the street it is a joy to drive. Since we last talked we built a lake home and spend most summer weekends there.
Did you pick up a replacement?
Thanks for responding!

I had a new rack that I bought for an RSA that was very stiff right out of the box. After changing every possible alignment adjustment I took the rack out and backed off the pinion preload and presto it was like power steering
Mike Courtney will know (or figure out) how to do this. Hope this helps
