I don't know how you can compare a 964 and 996 for the way they drive. I know this is a thread or another time, but I have had both 964s and 996 track cars. I have also had both 964 cup, 993 cups and 996 cups. The differences is more than the similarities. The 964 is so much more visceral. It is truly the tail wagging the dog. It is a great driver's car. A 996 was a little more refined and easier to drive fast. You didn't have to worry about the oversteer as much. I really think that every new generation of 911 has refined that a little more. When I went from a 964 cup to a 993 cup, the difference in the suspension was huge, as well as the way it handled power.
For what its worth, I did track time in street versions of each also and felt the same way after driving each. Bottom line, they all drive a little different based on the geometry of their suspension. It's not just because the new versions have more bhp, it is also because they car has better suspension that helps lower the lap times.

LOVE this!! ^^^^ (although it could be argued that the 964 Carerra RS & RS3.8 are the real GT cars of that era)
Tony, I think it's your turn to come down here to my house for a weekend, and let's put you in the driver seat of the 7.2 3. We'll stay in the twisties so you don't get a ticket!!!
..... or we could still try to do the Camp 928 club drive up in the Adirondacks this year.

Anthony, I think you'd be foolish to track the 993 and 964 supercups and carerra cups these days, crashing one would be irreplaceable. I wish I had mine back. Those air cooled supercups have been a better investment than the stock market. . These days you can buy the 996 Cups for a song and they are great track cars.

A little warning, MAKE SURE someone you know or trust takes a look at this car first before you even think of wasting money on a PPI - The car is not in vegas, its here in CA I have seen this car before in my city and it is lets just say a sore sight, the owner is being very vague in his description and not showing clear pics hoping some poor guy will just snap it up and have it shipped to them because surely anyone that sees it in person or sees clear pics of it may vomit all over the place. Being in the car biz i struggle w posting these warnings because of the back lash owners could have against my business name, but this one i just can't let go.
Here is the vin so hopefully someone searching it online sees this

$65k for a 89 C4 with 100k miles on it..... you don't need to PPI the car simply don't bother with it at that price.

Agreed re this particular car...just wondered if $65k for the same car well sorted/upgraded suspension in excellent condition inside and out would be an accurate price...

I thought that was funny too,... but then recall (decades ago in my younger yrs) trying to figure out what Guards Red had to do with Indischrot ....
So maybe he was not that far off. Indischrot, as the German name (& as we see on our Frunk tags as color code L80K),... and it's English interpretation as "Guards Red". "Indisch" as the Royal British & Dutch Military unit (they were the "Guard"),.. and I recall reading that Porsche had linked their red color formula to the uniforms that they had worn back in the mid-late 1800's.
https://www.encyclopedia.com/history...h-indisch-army
Of course he probably just put the letter "n" on the end of his shortened "India",.. which this is not the first time I've seen people do that.
Anyway,... I also just found this thread too.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...uards-red.html
seems PPG actually has two different formulas for the red.
Years ago, when I needed some touch up paint for front end nics in my Guards Red 964, I had to get a paint shop to put a paint camera on various spots on the car where I needed touch up. The formula came up quite different than the Porsche Parts Dept touch up (which was much brighter). Reds are fickle colors, and so many things affect them (from the primer color underneath, to the amount of UV rays have hit it over the years). Not so easy to get the right touch up color.
