If someone local buys this, i'll make myself available to stop by and help you put the motor back together, lol

I wonder what local shop this car is sitting at...

Laughing aside, how much for an engine rebuilt $12k + depending on spec?
Add a few $k for other mods and you've got your self a good car if the base is good.
Is that a good or a bad deal for say $33k ish.
In the UK that a £30k car when finished, almost $50k?

The description of the motor's status is vague at best. So does it only need to be reassembled, or does it still need "rebuilding" and other repairs ($$$$) before it can be reassembled and be operational again?

Aside from the fact the motor is in pieces, the description of the car doesn't make it sound like an incredible catch. Mentions rust on the undercarriage... is it a UK car? Mentions it needs a new cruise control "switch" and needs a new clock. Needing a new clock seems strange... It has 128k miles.

I meant the equivalent car in the UK.
I guess my question is, if the basics are ok and you spent 15 to 16k putting her back together, does it make a good or bad deal.
How much would pay for a decent 964 that has just had its engine rebuilt to original spec for example?

looks like a $15k car at best.... but an opportunity perhaps.

If it had black interior it would do better

I was going to post a new thread, but since we're already discussing this car...I"m trying to make the math work.

What is a reasonable estimate to rebuild the motor? No fancy internals, just a solid motor. I assume that a clutch job is a good idea since everything is out and accessible. That adds what--another $1200?

I'm nervous that he mentions "flood" and that the car has a new interior. But if this is a reasonable price on a solid car that just needs to be made whole, I'm intrigued.

This seems to be in the current "project car" asking price range. They appear to be targeted at the most optimistic among us. I guess if the current price trajectory continues and the project lasts long enough, the future value line and the true cost could turn positive.

It's crazy that I paid the '2014 964 roller project car price' back in 2011 and was still able to immediately jump in the driver's seat, turn the key, and go on a 11hr+ road trip back to my house.

Interesting project. I would rather have it with the engine still in place so you can tow the whole thing away and start from scratch.

Now which would you rather have. This one or a 90 C2 5spd baltic blue on blue, 220,000 miles, running but leaking oil for 5 spots on the motor plus oil cooler, tires shot, small rust bubbles and 2" brush stroke touch ups on the exterior, but the car actually runs. For $15k. This was the car TCSracing and a few others passed on. It would have been another money pit.

Agree with bobaines. For the money you have to invest in the rebuild plus a complete paint job, I don't know if the $$$ make sense yet for a restoration. Perhaps one day we will look back and say this was a steal.

Better than paying the 2014 price in 2010 like I did! (after new suspension and major service that is).

At least I got a good solid car that I've been able to enjoy reliably ever since. It's a tough market for buyers out there at the moment.

Sounds and looks like the car is at the shop, huge repair bill.... One should always assume purchasing a rolling chassis in this scenario and hope to get lucky. I wouldn't know the value of it, RLers are more fluid on putting a number on cars.

Just a heads up for anyone who might be interested, I got in contact with the owner... the car is sitting at a shop, I then got in contact with the owner of the shop, he said they took the motor apart 3 years ago and its been sitting since. When I spoke with the owner of the car he told me the motor needed a new camshaft which would cost between 4-5k and then a rebuild of 1-2k, this didnt sound right to me so I asked for the shop information so I could speak with the mechanic in charge, after a couple of emails he finally gave me the information. Long story short, the owner of the shop told me the motor needs a minimum of 12k worth of work as the motor spun a bearing and the motor needs machine work.
