Been putting this off far too long, my Intro
Hi Rennlisters,
I've been meaning to sit down and take the time to introduce myself and I finally found some time. My name is Dan, Im 38 years old and like many of you I have the Porsche sickness. I currently have a 1990 C2 but have owned a '79 911 SC Targa (my first Porsche), '65 911 coupe and an '86 944 previously. I am a professional Porsche technician by trade and I currently run a shop in Manhattan Beach California specializing in them. I started out at the ripe old age of 21 working for Skip Barber racing school back in the 1990's as a formula car mechanic. I recieved my competition liscense back then and one of my driving instructors/co-workers happened to be Vic Elford. On the weekends I did some trackside work for Kelly Moss motorsports. From there I moved back home (at the time) to kansas city and started my Porsche journey working for Bob Hindson racing inc. where I was conditioned to become a full blown Porsche tech and recieved Bosch training and certification. While there I learned to build aircooled 911 engines as well as the water pumpers that were available at the time. We did street car work as well as restoration and vintage race car build and trackside support. While there I was fortunate to assist in the restoration of several notable Porsche cars including a 1974 Iroc car that went on to win the 1980 trans am championship, a 962, and a 935. In addition to those cars we also maintained a real 993 rsr for club racing so I got to put my hands on some pretty serious machines. We also maintained some ex world challenge cars and some vintage formula cars including a Jagermeister March 762 formula 2 car. In 2001 i moved to California and went to work for McKenna Porsche and became a certified Porsche tech. Dealership life was good to me but eventually got old and I longed to work on cars more special than just brand new late models. Since then I have worked for Vision motorsports, GMG racing and Hergesheimer motorsports. In 2008 the opportunity arose to run my own shop so I took a deep breath and took the plunge.
I've had my 964 for over three years now and its gone through a bit of a transformation... I'll use this topic to show you guys how far its come and some of the finer details and of course update on new changes from here on out.
Anyways, sorry for all the words. heres a couple pics to start off...
as purchased with 163,000 miles and still bone stock back in 2010:
today with 166,000 on the clock and a lot of time and money spent in between:
Did a quickie reseal and clean up this past June (had to replace a rotten fan and housing too) because I wanted to enjoy the car during the summer months. Its coming out again soon for some more refinements and details I didnt have time to accomplish last time it was out, like powdercoat the sheet metal etc..
Thanks for the look, I like technical stuff and look forward to giving back to the community in that regard.

Welcome Dan! Great intro ... Look forward to some of the stories from those cars you've been lucky enough to see up close/inside out ... I'm sure you have made some interesting tweaks to your 64 .... You only left out one thing - why LateForLunch?

Great intro, and great CV. Certainly jealous. I just make drugs for a living. Well, thinking about it, so do you, too.
And, certainly jealous of the hydraulic table for dropping an engine!

A big hearty welcome to you Dan. Wow, what a Porsche history.
This forum and it's members just keep getting stronger!
I'd love to take my car to a shop where the owner has a 964!
