Remove anything that's not metal..!
I had a bare metal resto done last year - absolutley everything came off. Before you know it a long list of replacement parts follows you around everywhere - from heatsheilds and all new rubbers to screws and fixings. £2.3k in parts for me (including a new o/s front wing).
Worth it though - until you write it off 6 days later on the way to Le Mans!

Thanks Lemass, sort of over it now - thankfully...
Jack, if you're interested I have the replacement parts list of every OPC item and part number that I replaced during the respray.

Front & rear PU support rails and retaining strips, a myriad of speed fastners, screws, nuts and washers. Check and more likely replace PU heat shields. Check rear alloy bumper and supports for corrosion, nearside fixing point very often badly corroded requires a repair or new bar to maintain integrity.
I've just been through a similar exercise and could not believe how many items are on the rear bumper section. I will save you counting, there are 178 individual items IIRC!

Mad isn't it? - all those parts, and I forgot about the bumper mounts and supports. When we stripped down to metal plenty of nightmares requiring custom fabrication and repairs - usual front scuttle, rear window bottom corners totally gone but hidden under the rubber seal, front wing wheel arch front too gone to repair so a new one fitted....
Replacement is my new avatar image shot at Millbrook for Classic Cars magazine late last year. Still have the salvage of the previous. Trying to sell off the grey sports seats and interior at the moment...

As for the soapy water... Is that to lube them for sliding in?
I see design911 advertises these with two widths... 6mm ish and 4mm ish. What is the difference? Is one better than another?
Thx again

Brill thx Tom. My wings still have the spotweld in place in the shut. Does that need to be 'released' (read broken) to get the old rubbers out and new rubbers in?
