Now I wish I had looked at my carrier more closely before putting the new mounts in!
My engine also dropped a bit on the driver side when that mount nut came off and I had to jack up the engine about another 1/2 inch to get the nut onto the new mount. Another post warned about that happening so I didn't worry about it and the car drives great with the new mounts.

Does the square nut on the mount base need to mesh with the engine carrier? I'm now thinking that with the bend in mine, I may have bottomed out on the edges of the square, and not have full surface area contact...

Hi guys,
Me too had the gap under the engine mount, as per previous pics. I replaced my with slightly used originals, but there is still a gap. Did I do this in vain? Were my old mounts ok? They feel firm, meaning I cant wobble the bolt or anything.

Just checked my mounts and they look exactly like Jetta's pic. Anyone have experience changing out the transmission mounts? Looks like a similar process, but from underneath...
