You need to do it independent of the mount you go with... The engine support brace in our cars can benefit from reinforcement.

Take a few more minutes, remove it, check its condition.

The one in my car had started to develop a few cracks.

Here is my thread page on that task

Support it the engine with the jack

19mm socket to loosen the mount nuts, and yes, I will sand and paint with POR15 all that when I take the engine carrier out. *For now I just want to install the engine mounts to move the car to the garage.

Loosen the four top bolts (13mm) and remove the mounts. Pretty easy.

Old and shot mounts...

New mounts in place, just have to be careful that the bottom washer with the bushing does not fall out as you center the bolt and let it come down into the carrier.

I had to use bolts that were a little bit longer until the correct ones arrive (M12 1.5 x 95mm)

Good think I got the brace... found to cracks in the engine carrier...

Almost done... can't weld it completely in one pass... too much heat...

Grind down any rough edges... and paint!

So the message is, also check engine carrier when replacing mounts. Common for these to bend or have cracks (or both). I went with the Rennline engine carrier reinforcement kit.

Great Post, Thanks Wachuko.

The welding is beyond my skills, however I will check my brace and if it needs it get a mech to do the reinforcement.

Cheers

Wish I had the skills to weld and complete a job like that, Wachuko.

I just put in the 993 motor mounts yesterday thanks to the great information available on this forum. Checked the engine carrier, and didn't notice any cracks or bends. Initial reactions after replacing worn 23 year old mounts are similar to what others have experienced. The car seems easier to shift, more responsive and seems more "solid." I think I can really tell the difference when I'm taking off in 1st gear. There doesn't seem to be as much squat in the rear, and the 1-2 shift is much better.

Wevo told me that cracks are most likely the result of worn engine mounts letting the carrier flex and crack and that if I did not have any, the black pillows and street driving would be ok on the carrier. So, I checked for cracks and could not find any and I decided to pass on the reinforcement, mainly due to the lack of welding skills. One day I may bite the bullet and have it done, but I am in no rush since I don't track the car.

wow, I just checked mine and they look as bad as all the old ones pictured. Thanks for the tip, this site rocks. I'll probably go with the 993's from Pelican.

Wevo, Wevo, Wevo! As I have said before on this site. Night and day difference.

Both are excellent replacement options, Pelican has the 993 mounts for $91ea and Wevos are $149ea.

I'm leaning towards 993 mounts since my carrier isn't reinforced. I'd like to go with the Wevos, but in the back of my head I'd always be wondering if the engine carrier is suffering from it.

This should be such a simple choice, but it isn't.
