Check your engine mounts!

Well, I've known for some time that my mounts had sagged 'a bit', but I finally replaced them tonight (easiest mounts I've ever replaced! Maybe a 20min job?).
What. A. Difference. I bought the 993 mounts from Pelican, and the car feels quite a bit newer: it was noticable the first time I took off - no drivetrain 'slack' on take off, and better shifting.

I love these cars...

Yup,

New MM's make a world of difference. I installed the Wevo's with black pillows and have been so pleased with the result. I too love these cars!!!!

How can you check?

I replaced my sagging MM with Wevo black pillows... wow, really tightened up the car. The new mounts also make on/off throttle transitions much more direct... instead of the engine flopping around.

My experience: (wow, back in 2009?!): Wevo m.m. installed - impressions

Bad engine mounts

Well it has been about a month of ownership so far. Can't wipe the grin off of my face every time I take the car out. And yes as others have said I find any reason to go for a drive. One thing that I have noticed is that the car currently rides like a Cadillac, very soft and wallows . The rear shocks are shot. Looking at Bilsteins and H&R greens. In addition the shifting is notchy at times and other times nice and smooth. Took a look at the engine mounts last night and here is what both of them look like. Now this is with the car just parked and not jacked up at all. The outer rubber is cracking and breaking down, very gummy.

What mounts would you recommend upgrading to for daily driving? 993c4 mounts?

High quality Wevo Motor Mounts! (no affil)
https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...ferrerid=19642

What do ebay 993 mounts cost?? Can't be much savings... Wevo's cost $300 a set, and you are done.

bmwtinut 11-07-2013 06:12 PM

993 C4 mounts at Pelican are only $182 a pair.

Careful with eBay motor mounts. People have literally had the motor drop out of the rear of the car from cheap quality, no brand, eBay mounts.

Geez guys because of this thread I went out and checked mine ... TOAST...

Looks like New motor mounts are (and have been) needed.

This explains... so much :o

Changing your engine mounts is a straightforward project and does have positive effects as mentioned above. We see this over all 911s needing fresh mounts.

Our 964 engine mount options are listed here and a fairly-applicable article on how to make the swap can be found here.

All of you check the mounts and see if they look like the ones above and if so get some new ones I went with the 993 mounts and works great for the street easy 20 min install. I need to try the Wevos and see how they are ... Get em done ..

Can someone link to the best/cheapest mounts?

Whoa. I just checked mine for the first time. No expert, but they look like there's some travel.

It didn't get mentioned during inspection, so I never thought to look.

Is this really a 20 min DIY R and R? I thought I had to drop the engine?

How do mine look to you guys?

njansenv 11-09-2013 01:32 PM

Very easy. I backed onto some ramps, put a jack under the motor to hold it, and then three bolts later the first mount was out. A ratchet, tq wrench, extension, 19mm deep socket and 13mm socket were all that it took. Very accessible.
