I think so too, but that process of parting a car will not sit well here at the house.
I'd rather just sell the car to someone who will part it out, but that would have to be after I get the salvage title on it.
It still drives fine. Just need a right rear light assembly to duct tape on

they would let you have the car for basically $3k? i'd be tempted to go that route, sell the car and let someone turn it into a track car, then find a nice replacement. i dont know though, that's a tough call that would depend on how attached you are.

seeing as a motor in halfway good running order is going around $4500 and up...and they want 3k for the car?...I would take it and rent a storage locker that you can keep it in while you tear it apart and sell off the pieces...you will end up way ahead...
the storage locker will keep the wife happy by not seeing the wreck and they usually aren't too much...win win

A buddy totaled his e36 M3 a couple of years ago, the insurance paid him like $12k for it, then he bought the car back for $800, and he resold it as-is for $4k. Had fresh AST/Vorshlag suspension throughout and the drivetrain was all intact, but the car was shaped like a U.

I got 23k for my wrecked 90 cab with 135k. I bought back for $4500 and now putting motor in my mint motor less targa and already got $2800 for the top. Will sell many more parts. So I get the running targa virtually free. I picked it up with new paint for 6k.
I would of fixed your car as It could of been fixed for a lot cheaper then 20k. But is sounds like you ended up walking away with 26k. Not bad. Oh well, you move on.

Steve,
Glad no one was hurt. Glad to see the money worked out the way it did. What's at the top of the list of your next ride?
