I bought my car back in January and found out on the ride home that both my mixing servos are completely shot. I loosened the arms on the servos and opened the heat flaps all the way manually, and re-tightened the arms on the dead servos. This worked great during the cold months and I had plenty of heat.
As soon as the weather got warm, I did the exact opposite and slammed the heat flaps shut. This also worked great until the last few days which have been really hot. I have hot air coming through my vents even with the vents closed.
I've only had the car for a short time and I'm wondering if this is a normal condition.
All my other servos are working properly.
I concur. Check Tore's site out and read it. I have read some more than once.
I'm aware of Tore's site, that's how I figured out that both my mixing servos are bad, as I've already stated. Currently both of heat flaps up front are shut and I'm still getting a lot of hot air coming through. I'm suspecting that the issue is somewhere in the back of the car. Anyone?
Are you sure the heat is coming from the heater vents and not the footwell? I have had this happen and the cause was a torn heater tube. My hose was torn on the back and was not visible. A small leak will allow a large amount of heat into the cabin.
Thanks for the comments on my site guys.
My 993 mixer flaps have a foam seal around the flap itself to stop any air leaks when shut. The seal was gone on one of my flaps, leaking hot air to the vents.
This could be the case in 964's too? I haven't had a detailed look on the actual flaps in a 964 so I am not sure.
II've seen some of the hose problems too. This mostly cooks down to a torn hose or loose clamp in one of the footwells, behind the carpet walls.
Cheers,
Tore
