I recieved the chip from Steve last night and installed it. Will be heading to the Wilmington Cars and Coffee this morning. Will report back how the new chip does with my stalling issue.

Well the Steve Wong chip works great except that in only works when engine is warmed up. When cold, it still stalls the same when the clutch is pressed. Since it works wonderfully when warm, does it sound like I have other issues with ignition or could it be a vacuum leak?

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

When you say warm, are we talking more than say 90 seconds after the engine has started running? i.e. the amount of time it takes for the ECU to start paying attention to the O2 sensor.

There are two injector delay maps. I would have to look at the 964 maps again to work out which one. Wen I adjusted it on my s2 it made a massive difference. Uses to plunge stall all the time, now never.

You need to adjust it live. Unfortunately you will need an ostrich 2 emulator to do this. Good news is they are relatively cheap. If you have a chip burner I could give you some tips of which map to try and adjustment value.

Cheers

It could be only during the warm up cycle as you suggest. There is a delay timer in the motronic that runs the engine quite rich for a fixed duration when cold. Not sure how long it is in the 964, but it is around 3 mins in the 944s2 which uses the same motronic model.

I have not timed it, but it probably is a few minutes. It is definitely okay by the time the thermostat opens up.

I have been running without O2 sensor. I have a wide band plx O2 sensor that does have a narrowband output 0-1V. I can wire that output in once I get a coding plug. I had a harness issue that destroyed my coding plug and have a new one on the way. I have the one for no cat currently plugged in.

A buddy of mine has all the stuff to program chips and does so on his 84' that he added a turbo. Will talk with him.

Thank you.

Will put something together this week. Hopefully also can get a good sound clip of the SC. It has a distinctive sound when it is in action.

Sorry, did not get around to creating a video - been a busy week. I am also on vacation all next week for daughter's spring break. Will get something together when I get back.

Been running pretty good. The new chip from 911Chips helped a lot - thanks Kyle. It still stalls but only when cold. If outside temp is above 60F, then it seems to be fine. I am running currently without O2, so Steve suggested adjusting MAF. Will hold off till I get correct coding plug and running O2 for a little while.

Want to thank everyone for help with the install. Been a good learning experience and car is amazingly fast now.

I cannot leave well enough alone. I am now going to go down the route of stand alone ecu from Raceboy. The unit I will be getting is a VEMS ecu configured for the motronic 55 pin loom. I will have to change out the throttle boby with TPS (which I already had), add egt, add IAT (since AFM can be ditched), and 630cc injectors. It will come with a TPC surpercharged 993 base map which should not be significantly different from the 964. I will just have tune it for my set up. Raceboy has been great to work with on the details.

Down the road, I have the option of doing away with distributor and going direct ignition with Bosch coil packs.

Here is his post on the unit:

Will be posting more in the future on the progress.

I have noticed that othe TPC intercooler kits have a expansion tank for the coolant system. Mine does not have one. Should I be concerned?

Hey Michael, my kit is one of the older kits with the Split Second black box instead of the Unichip and the 7th injector only (no 8th) and it has the expansion tank. It appears TPC did away with this reservoir on the newer kits. I wouldn't be concerned unless you are having cooling issues. What intake air temperatures are you seeing? Any knocks or signs of detonation?

Hi Kyle,

Thanks., that appeared to be the case as I have seen several different installs and it looked like the newer model did not have a tank.

I have not driven in much heat yet. The most I have seen for manifold temp is 110 F. Not worried about any detonation as I am running fairly rich on boost (I have seen numbers in the 10.5-7:1). We were going to look to tune the Unichi some, but not sure how accurate we can get with the extra injectors. Really looking forward to the VEMS ECU and larger injectors to seriously tune it.
