My Red 1991 964 Targa was stolen this morning.
Bad times...woke up this morning and my Red 1991 Targa was gone. I'm in Phoenix and the last six of the VIN is 440563. It was all stock still with chromed stock flat wheels. It was in great condition but I'm not holding my breath on ever seeing it again, especially in the condition it was in. Just putting the info out there in case anyone in the area comes across it while looking for one. I'll post a pic if I can figure out how.

you need to post a few more times before you can ad pictures.
Sorry to hear about your car and hope it turns up undamaged.

Another 964 stolen in Arizona.
An RS America was reported stolen in Arizona on April 1st. What's going on in Arizona? Is the 964 really becoming that coveted?
Here is a link to that thread.

No idea if that one has been located.

Very sorry to hear that. Was it off street? Garaged? Any possibility of surveillance footage in your area?

I read the RS theft in Arizona a bit ago and has made me rethink leaving the car in the back bay in Boston to have dinner or drinks. Seems out cars are quite sought after. No insurance check could replace my car. My heart aches for you brother..

It's very unfortunate and Phoenix is showing us how easily it can happen. I'm surprised we don't see more reports from other places.
Things will change when 90% of cars have tracking and real time notification. Until then I drive the minivan if there is concern.

After reading about these two incidences in Arizona I've started to become concerned about theft, especially when I spy shady looking individuals taking photographs and focusing on my plates.
Thought it was hard to steal these cars. Do they tow them?

WTF? yep it was my RSA stolen. Nabbed it right out in front of my office building when I walked to lunch. Thomas and 15th ave, 40' from the all glass entry on a one way parking lot as people were coming and going in and out of the building. None of my employees saw anyone. No broken glass and impossible to get a wrecker in to grab it. These were pros. PM me with your details/location etc...
I had just had the car completely gone over, it was perfect. Had it back on the road only about a week after getting back from the shop. You didn't just have it worked on did you? I went all around the neighborhood to see if the car had been parked, theives will do that to make sure it doesn't have a lojack.
The insurance company finally came back to me with the paperwork for the claim, I litterally got sick to my stomach when I added up everything I did to that car. Let alone the price of a clean RSA these days...
For everyone else, THESE CARS ARE EASY TO STEAL! don't get fooled with the factory security system. Because the alarm is disabled with the door key, if you can work a slimjim you will open the door and disarm the security all in the same stroke. The ignition is the same old setup so if you yank it out with a slide hammer a screwdriver is all you need. If you have a nice 964 I'd either sink the money in an add on wireless, or better yet get a lojack.
I don't know whats going on but this sucks...

I know what it's like to have a car stolen! At first, I thought I was mistaken about where I'd parked it, then realised it was either towed by the police, or stolen, and stolen it was. The insurance company made me wait 8 weeks before they would consider processing the paperwork. On the day that 8 weeks arrived, I faxed through to the insurance company the every document on the car, to show, it's true value. As the last piece of paper when through the fax machine, the phone rang. It was the police! We've found your car. I told to go loose it again, I didn't want it back. Anyway, the insurance company paid out for the damage and I sold the car on. as much as I loved the car, I didn't want to even get in after some scumbag had been using it for 2 months. I hope they find both cars soon, before someone else's DNA gets splashed all over it.

I wanted to mention that since 2004, my Ferrari, Porsche and BMW X6 have all had Tracking devices fitted as part of the terms and conditions of my insurance company. It makes sense! When I find the 964 I'm looking for, it's getting a tracker for sure.

Details about theft
Like Jim my car was taken under unusual conditions. I live in a relatively secure area less than a mile from where Jim' RSA was taken 2 weeks ago. It was taken around 6:30 AM on a Sunday morning (it was daylight) and my neighbor heard it start so someone didn't tow it.
Like Jim there was no broken glass and it was locked. It was parked about 20' from my bedroom in a parking lot that can only be accessed in and out with a key or remote with one entrance/exit. Its an apartment complex so any number of people could have a key to get in or out but that would be quite coincidental that the thief is a tenant or former tenant and happens to be a Porsche thief.
Mine was a red '91 Targa with all original parts. AZ plate #APT-3194....VIN: WPOBB2966M5440563
If I can ever afford to replace it I will be getting LOJACK.
