Default Dual oil cooler ??

I just finished installing a second oil cooler. I installed the coolers in series with the right cooler receiving oil first and the left after that. Does it make a difference which cooler receives oil first?

Second question. I used the rear port (port which is at an angle) on the cooler as the input and the front port as the exit. Are the oil cooler ports input/output specific?

Thanks!

I don't believe it matters which cooler gets the oil first. When I plumbed mine, I used the front port as the input and the higher one as the outlet. When you plumb a generic cooler, you always feed in from the bottom and out from the top so you push the air out of the system.

Jim, just a minor point.

My dual coolers are so efficient that oil temps just don't go above mid-gauge even during race conditions unless it's a really hot day.

So much so that I'll be running 15/40 during the early and later part of the season; if you're running 20/50 always, you may want to think a lighter oil during the spring.

Kai, thanks for the info! Yes, I do run 20/50 all season. Jim

Is your setup the standard second cooler? Just wondering... I know OK is hot in the summer, too!

It's a somewhat larger Setrab, mounted on the left side. The installation is somewhat trick, but I'm sworn to secrecy as it is a Gamroth special.

You'll love your setup!!!

Off topic, but so that you don't have to remove the AC condenser for the second cooler, is it possible to just get a bigger or more efficient cooler? I noticed in the NY summer my temps were slowly creeping above the 9 o'clock mark.

Alex, contact Weiner.

I believe he still has one Ruf secondary system left which will work next to the A/C condenser. They're scarce as hen's teeth, but come complete for a button down job.

I used a mocal cooler as my second cooler with a custom bracket made by Gulf Performance in Ft Lauderdale so that the AC cooler remains. It provides enough cooling to see the same temperatures that Kai documented.

As far as order, I have it setup the same way you did where the oil runs through the stock cooler then to the secondary cooler and then back to the engine. I adjusted the oil lines last winter to and from the aux cooler as they were backwards where the oil entered at the top and exited at the bottom, so lots of air was trapped in the cooler. I'm sure the running temps will be somewhat improved when I finally get back to the track.

Enjoy and good luck.
