Jack, nice ride, I love the blues and especially cobalt.

I have done a lot of stuff to my car, much similar to what you want to achieve, and If you're looking for lightweight upgrades you may want to consider the RS door pannel. I know its not for everyone's taste but a worthy upgrade if you are after the RS look and weight loss. Your interior appears to be light gray as well, see below what I have done to my door.

Simple and easy to DIY.

Ok, so an update... I've bought some scales and have been weighing everything I've been taking out of the car..

Taken out some of the tools as well.. such as the tow hooks.. are they really needed if the car is not going on track? plus tire wrench as have no spare (by this rationale I guess the jack can go too although still in the car for now..)
The ideas is to remove as much weight as possible without compromising comfort too much or making the changes non reversible. So for now no sound deadening is going. Am also sticking to OEM Cup2s as they are lighter than CUP1s..


Removed so far in Kgs:
Tools: 1.04
Front Fogs:1.1
Spare tire: 13.4
Rear under-tray: 4.97
Tray bolts: 0.15
Tire Pump: 1.2
Seat backs: 6
Rear footwell carpet: 0.7
Cat bypass: ?
Rs flywheel: ?
Rear wiper delete: 6
Intensive wash reservoir: Still need to weigh
Rear Belts: Still need to weigh
Rear gas struts: Still need to weigh

Total so far: 35Kgs

Still need to remove:

Stereo and speakers
Rear Shelf
Frunk Carpet
Sunroof Delete: Might just take motor out for now as not working anyhow
Doorpanels and replace with RS
Rear Heater Bypass pipe
Also want to replace the rear deck with a duckspolier (not sure how much that will save but should be significant), go with a carbon bonnet and Recaros.

All in all am hoping to remove about 100KGs.. will take pics over the weekend of all the stuff removed so far..

Yes it is just a snapped cable but I'm going to delete the sunroof in any case so wont bother to replace it..

That TT really is inspirational!! Don't think I will go quite that far...

Fitted the rear suspension this weekend.. the old shocks has wildly unequal preload.. can't have helped much..
Usefully forgot to take pics of the installed shocks but here are pics of the old ones and of the tower mounting points.. the left is particularly fiddly to get to.
Also found that what I thought were HR reds were actually Cargraphic springs.. identical to the H&R Greens I had bought as replacements.

While there I found out that the right hand side caliper had a jammed pad in it.. for quite a while by the looks of it. The outside pad is completely worn while the inside is like new. This is because some corrosion under the spring retaining plate has lifted it and jammed the pad. Despite my best efforts I was unable to get it out. I scraped all the corrosion out with a blade and then beat it back flat but still no movement..Have now bought a pad puller on Alex's recommendation and we'll see if I can work the pad out tomorrow..

Also fitted the RS engine mounts... they make a big difference.. I think they also feel lighter than the standard ones but I forgot to weigh them before installation

Will you be getting your engine carrier strengthened for use with those RS mount?

That caliper does look fairly furry Slide hammer + sweat and grazed knuckles = all good

As I said when you do get the pad out you have the option of filling down the new pads to fit - because with that much plate lift they won't just drop in - in fact you'll struggle to hammer them in. If you don't fancy that and you want to do it "properly" you will need the caliper off anyway to take the plates off and clean the calipers up. In which case you don't need to sweat to get the pad out as it will pretty be much easy to slide out once the caliper is off the car.
