Project Lightweight C2
Been lurking for a while, enjoying some great threads and learning along the way but I thought it was time to introduce myself and car.
I've always been a Porsche admirer but from a far until 4yrs ago when I bought a 1989 5-speed 930. Not everyones personal favourite but I love its old school charms and vices so its a keeper!
This naturally led onto me buying a very rusty 1969 912 rolling chassis for the basis of a Moby Dick inspired pre-73 stock looking sleeper build which unfortunately is now on hold.
My pre-73 sleeper project didn't get past the parts collection stage as when I bought a 3.6ltr engine for it I had to buy the rest of the attached car as the PO had cared for it so well before it suffered some parking dents. Still not sure how I've ended up with another whole car
Which now brings me up to date as the proud owner of 1990 964 C2 which is mechanically in tip top condition but sadly won't win any concours show prizes and will never be put back to standard spec.
So welcome to my 'Project Lightweight C2' where the build theme will be 'Less is More' (current colour scheme the obvious exception) and I'll be sliding down the slippery slope as far as my wallet and time will let me

That all sounds perfectly sensible 
Hehe, I think that colour scheme was a factory option "guards redblacksilveryellow", very rare, an acquired taste but still nicer than Rubystone.
Any pics of the 930?

Here you go, last years first drive, I couldn't wait, its lovingly cared for and has mainly been used for long drives across Europe
Not standard bodywork but I've all the stock parts and one day will put it back to 'as manufactured'

Nearly a year after buying it sight unseen, today was a day of many firsts, first time I've seen the car in a fit state to be used on the road, first drive of my car, first drive of a 964 and first drive of a NA aircooled engine.
Dom and the guys at Specialist Vehicle Preperations near Redditch in sunny England have done a great job putting it back together to my limited budget using various 2nd hand parts I'd sourced from Ebay.
First impressions were it looks dreadful, junkyard chic at its best but it drives the complete opposite to how it looks.
Car is 40mm lowered so felt rock solid and very planted. No rattles, squeeks, felt almost as if it was cut out from one big lump of granite. Compared to my 930 the power delivery is very different, no kick in the pants acceleration but just seemless bags of torque right up through the revs without any hesitation along the way.
UK roads are not the best place to drive if you want to fully enjoy a car so this week will used as shakedown to check everything works as it should. I'll then garage it until my next visit in the summer when I pick it up for a proper drive all the way across Europe to Slovenia with some friends from Impactbumpers.Com.
Any doubts I had about buying this car, vanished within 5mins of driving it

Thanks Jev, the 18" mag BBS's won't go on for a while, after driving on UK roads last week I'm thinking something robust like Minilites might be a better chocie
Thanks Alex, the colour comb certainly raises a few smiles, plenty of looks and traffic gives me plenty of driving space.
Build sequence is going to a be a bit random but I'll start off conventionally by stripping out the usual non essential stuff, weighing and posting weights as I go along.
The big weight saving will come from lots of carbon panels I will design and have manufactured to my specifications. I'll start from the rear and up high and work my way forward.
Will also add back in a bit of weight to improve critical stiffnesses to help with improving the handling.

Finally drove my 964 back from the UK to my home in Italy.
Combined the long drive back with a scenic tour with some impact bumper 911 owning friends and their cars. We visited the Ring, Mercedes and Porsche museum's in Stuttgart, RUF factory, Grossglockner alpine pass, Porsche museum in Gmund, and a tour over the Vrsic pass into and around the Triglav national park in Slovenia.
All I can say is what a car, mine maybe cosmetically challenged but mechanically it is well sorted. It ran well in traffic, hot, cold, wet, high altitude, cruised at 140 mph for miles and miles in convoy with friend in his 993 4S on the autobahn, quite agile up and down twisty alpine passes and even acted as a delivery van for part of the trip.
I knew these cars were good but never experienced how useable thay actually are, has to be one of the sweet spots in the air cooled range. Just the right blend of old school character with just enough modern comforts for long distance touring.

got my hands on the car for the first time to day so made a start and removed the following
10g Carrera 2 rear badge
2497g rear wiper assy (wiring still to be removed)
9018g stereo system including centre tunnel tape holder and a Del Amitri cassette tape left by the PO (wiring and radio metal chassis still to be removed)
212g pair of alumnium carpet edging cover strips
797g pair of sun visors
3614g rear parcel shelf
1877g front footwell carpet mats and brackets
576g pair of front corner carpet trip covering heating ducting
Also weighed the 4 way electrical sport seats 23.15kg each need to fit the kids in so I fitted them back in
Weight removed running total 18.60kg or in old money 41lbs
