Over the last 20 years I have been involved in many seatbelt and other passenger and equipment dynamic tests and it never seases t o amaze me that something tried and tested can so easily fail when the parameters are changed only slightly.
Stuart, you've convinced me, the bolts are going back in, it was your stock seat belt comment that made me relook at what I'd done, thanks for posting.

Now about the wheel nuts do you think I could get away using 4 of the 5 nuts on each wheel or the steering wheel centre nut

still cleaning glue off, one more session and I should be done, just a hateful but necessary job

took off a few more easy to remove parts, still got loads to go

0.042kg Porsche bonnet badge
0.916kg glove box lid
0.976kg steel ECU tray inder passenger seat
0.049kg plastic bracket under brake fluid reservoir (really not sure why this is fitted)
0.355kg more stereo wiring
0.044kg brake and clutch pedal rubber pads
0.445kg HVAC unitl plastic shroud and bonnet rubber seal

Weight removed running total 115.87kg or in old money 255.4lbs

One area I will really concentrate on is removing wiring for stuff I don't need eg, brake pad wear, interior lights, reversing lights, under bonnet light, seats, wing mirrors etc

Copper density is 14% heavier than steel so I'm sure I'll find plenty of weight once I start stripping out looms for the rear wiper, door mirrors, central locking, reversing light, brake pad wear etc

Also found this, copper coated alumnium battery cable, 1/2 the weight of normal battery cable and uses crimped on connectors

Hi Captain Ahab,

I removed all unnecessary cable - incl. all Stereo/Radio, etc. I came up to 3,8xx KG in total. It was fairly easy once I started...

so - in fact easy kilos. My car is pretty stripped and Carbon substituted ;-) and it is down to 1150KG - I guess with some Literes Gas.

Thanks a lot, greetz Tim

As I had the loom apart for my refurb, I removed all the wiring for the cruise control. That was a lot of cable!

Tm and Rob, thanks for your comments, 1150kgs is a sizeable saving

3.8kgs for the wiring is more than I had estimated which is good news as its starting to get a little harder now but I still have plenty left to remove

Attacked the alarm and immobiliser wiring today, started off cautiously, systematically checking the engine would restart after each snip and then I got stuck in and ripped the whole lot out chucking it in a heap as I found more and yet more if it.

Bigger pile of wires than I had originally thought there would be

Car had an alarm and an immobiliser fitted, think the alarm was an old one that didn't work.
The immobiliser worked as now the car won't start but once I reconnect the ignition wires it was spliced into everything should be fine, fingers crossed

Today's list of stuff removed,

2.791kg alarm boxes, immobiliser, wiring and sensors
4.024kg pair of interior door panels and door interior handles
1.159kg pair of interior door tops
0.351kg pair of bonnet gas struts
0.093kg under dash HVAC duct, rhs above drivers feet

Weight removed running total 124.29kg or in old money 274lbs

Nice going Ahab!! Maybe I've forgotten but what is your aim? All seems pretty radical, are you turning it into a track car?

No not doing a trackday car, aim is to build a very lightweight road car for driving up and down Alpine mountain roads.

Not done anything special, just removed parts I think I have no need for, at this stage would prefer to go too far than not far enough.

The radical stuff will come along later in the build

From various suppliers websites, a straight through cup bypass exhaust pipe is a 25lbs saving over the primary muffler so I'll add it to my list

Not changed by me but by a previous owner

10kg cup bypass exhaust pipe (rounded down)

Weight removed running total 134.29kg or in old money 301lbs

Very interesting, so what is your car weighting at the moment ?
It's always the small amounts that ads up and make a big difference at the end....

Best weight saving for me was going from Speedlines to OZ Allegeritas, improving weight ratio & handling ( 4kg per corners, spinning)

A 16 A Lithium batterie at 1 kg is also quite radical and very economical .....
