Project Lightweight C2
The sound instantly put the smile back on my face

Got a list of small jobs to do by the weekend and then its test drive time to see what -170kgs feels like
Had a very enjoyable evening and Andy if you are reading this, your car is stunning so don't do anything too drastic to it as its perfect as it is
Doh!
This weekend I snapped the plastic end of the throttle pedal linkage so no driving for me this weekendSo instead I did fully electric systems check, everything that should work, worked and I didn't let any smoke out of any boxes
Not to be put off by my ham fistedness I did a bit of interior house keeping with my trusty grinder and remembered I needed to add the weigh to my list for the front fog light delete
1.09kg front fog light delete, pair (thank you previous owner)
0.156kg sunroof drain tubes (2 front and 2 rear)
0.195kg spot welded brackets from rear seat area (not incl. large rear seat central pivot bracket and seat belt inertia mounting brackets)
0.206kg C pillar roof interior trim
Weight removed running total 172.202kg or 379.64lbs
Been sniffing out who makes the lightest 17" wheels, turns out its the Japanese, the best companies do some uber light forged wheels, names I'd never heard of like Impul, Buddy Club, SSR, Desmond, Spoon. Unknown names in the Porsche world but the best of the best in the drifting scene.
I'm half way to having my first set of wheels as I've bought a pair of 9" SSR Type C wheels. Similar in style to Volk TE37 wheels but lighter.
Need to track down a set of 8" for the front which will save me a huge amount of unsprung weight. PCD is smaller than Porsche PCD so I'll need custom wheel hubs.
Offsets I've chosen will allow me to fit a wheel PCD conversion spacer should I ever want to fit 17" Fuchs or Cup 1's for boulevard cruising
48.0kg a set for the Mille Miglia Cup 1 knock offs my car has now
43.6kg a set for Porsche Cup 1
35.6kg a set for Porsche Magnesium Cup 1 (5-6x more to buy than I will have spent on the SSR's)

31.3kg a set for Fuchs
26.8kg a set for SSR Type C (even gain an extra 1/2" of width on the fronts)
I think the style will suit the 964 shape but I'm sure the purists will disagree
I have 17" Cup1s but am staggered at how much they weigh.. some lighter wheels for track would be good and think I want to stick to 17". Direct fitment ideally.
The Best Porsche Posts for Porsche Enthusiasts
For direct fitment I'd go for Team Dynamics Veloce GT1, 30.6kg a set but they are 18's and I'm sure how much and available they are.
Or if you want to stick with 17" then 996 10 spoke wheels are good value and quite a bit lighter than Cup 1's http://www.944racing.de/wheelweights.php
and the diet continues with a little bit removed from the unsprung weight...
0.772kg pair of steel front brake disc shields
0.234kg pair of aluminium rear brake disc shields
weight removed running total 173.208kg or 381.86lbs
exactly right, every bit helps, most of the weight I've removed so far are parts that weigh less than 1kg, the big numbers are yet to come

0.211kg rear bumper centre section lower edge steel strip
0.268kg sunroof wiring loom from motor to rear bulkhead connector
0.253kg pair of door window inner felt seals
0.115kg spot welded steel rear seat centre pivot bracket
0.223kg internal door lock rotary **** and linkage to door latch
weight removed running 174.278kg or 384.22lbs
Hoping the diet has worked as this weekend I'm going to try fit my 964 in the back of a 7.5 ton truck using the tail lift which has a 1000kg weight limit.
Then its pack the contents of my house under, inside, around and on top of my poor car and drive the whole lot across Europe back to sunny Oxfordshire-by-the sea in good olde England.
Looking forward to giving my car a permanent home so I get serious on taking a lot more weight out.
