Default Winter Projects

So not sure what everyone else is up to over winter but my to do list is:

- Underseal car to protect over winter period
- Car is into bodyshop on 8/12 to get rear bumper resprayed (as given basically the rest of the car was done imperfections here are nagging at my OCD)
- Also need small corrosion blister on the RHS sill near drivers door rectified(was supposed to be done as Phase 1 and was on the quote but he missed it - we agreed he would sort it FOC when he is doing the rear bumper )
- I am also going to investigate the rear light set being renewed. Depends on cost and supply but I may leave that job until funds allow later in 2013
- I have also booked the car in for a reseal to sort the oil leaks and I will do the clutch at same time while engine is out for first Sat of April 2013 (so right after Spa trip). Will discuss whether it needs a full top end doing at this time once engine is out but good leakdown test this year and no smoking suggest it may not be required

Once these are done I think the only thing left to resolve is upgrading the rear brakes to match the front (OEM 964 RS). As a "project", the car will be complete. So maybe by late next year it will be all finished and like new again (3 year rolling resto!)

Finish refurbing and fitting the replacement front calipers I picked up , hopefully in the next week or so

Steering rack re build

Remove large washer bottle and front bumper beam

Install front 'RS' ducts

Continue with stripping the interior

I'd like to put my ducktail on, if possible

Paint needs to wait a while, these a lot to do!

Good excuse to marshall my thoughts: After I bought my car back she has had the bodywork done, now for the fun part. In no logical order:

Find current drain

Lower front end a few mm on the perches

Tint film rear lights/reflectors

Respray speaker grilles

Clean up and respray wheelnuts

Fit emergency frunk release

Repair missing frunk carpet press-studs

Replace cracked foglight

Sort lhs lower valve cover leak

Repair broken upper oiltank mount

Straighten smile

New rear engine cover struts

Twin spring wipers

Replace old and dim rear numberplate lights

LED bulbs for interior, engine cover and frunk lights

Sort oilcooler fan, on all the time, have pulled fuse. Ballast resistor already changed, temp sensor next.

Waste oil and tectyl ML into wheelarch cavities.

Replace OSR light heatshield (missed during body resto).

Feed leather.

Repaint front calipers.

Search for fatter rear sway bar and fit, maybe splash out on H+R front and rear kit.

(356 job: fit new gearshift bushing, thats it!)

No sweat, lucky I have loads of spare time with 50 hour a week job, 2 small kids and bike training to fit in..

Good to see this sort of stuff going on

My winter projects are going to be pretty low key this year. The unexpected need for a new (re-con) steering rack has already taken up a chunk of the winter budget. So stuff I'm doing is:

- Brake cooling (done)
- remove my 'cup style' floorboards, sand down and stain black
- change engine lid lifters (i've got the strong ones which make it fly open so will change to standard ones)
- one new rear light because the old one is filling with water
- fine adjustments of the bonnet to get rid of some tiny leaks past the seal
- test out my new GoPro so it's ready for Spa next year
- book a track day in March for a shakedown prior to Spa 2013
- new vinyl decals for next year's trackday look (Brumos Porsche scheme is favourite at the moment).

I have two lists for winter, a certainly will do and one optional to do.

Certain:
-Replace front calipers with 993 calipers and 928 discs
-Add a second oil cooler
-Add cylinder head temp gague, one for left and one for right (for no particular reson but I have two VDOs)
-Add volt meter

Optional:
-install the 997 RSR e-power steering I have laying in my garage
-buy and install reinforced engine carrier
-buy and install RS carbon fiber heater duct
-buy and install front splitter

Completly unorganised but hoping to get most of the following done or started...

1. Install heater bypass tube
2. Refurb wheels
3. Install Makralon rear screen
4. If that works ^^^ then install 993 rear qtrs
5. Paint sills and lower rear bumper
6. Fit rear silencer and see if I like it
7. Install passenger harness
8. Secure some track day tyres ready for Spa (though may burn through my P-Zeros instead)
9. Plastidip track wheels - gold
10. Sketch up my decal plans for Spa
11. Service for Spa (Hawk brake pad upgrade?)
12. Geo on fresh rubber and/ or get the front lowered a bit - maybe...

If Santa deems that I've been good this year then next upgrades are Short shift kit, RS engine mounts, reinforced engine carrier...but he's no fool unfortunately ;-)
