Here's a similar colour on E28s...

I agree about keeping the RS badge - it's a special order and if it was ordered with an RS badge then it's part of the cars unique history - after all, it sounds like it's got a few RS goodies on it. If however it was added a couple of years ago...

Perhaps we should start a little 964 corner at the next VW event?

Richies car in the photo is quite a dark shade of purple up close (think black cherry). It looks cracking tho

Purple Enemy looks more of a deep blue / purple

Lovely! Thanks. I'd love to run those rims on the Purple Enemy.

Probably not the sort of photographs John Boggiano wants to be seeing though - one case of badge fury a day is enough for any man.
That silver badge is like Andy Warhol signing a Picasso.
:-)

Thinking about it Andy Warhol signed a Picasso it could be potentially unique.

As stated I've not fitted a badge on the back of my car - this was how it came... It was already like it is when I got it.

I was actually told the RS is a special version only offered to farmers in Somerset.
From what I was told they had a badge that simply had two letters R and S as the farmers pronounced it AARSE and the badge is only there to help the farmers find the back, or the aarse, of the car as historically, they'd had problems doing so when they came out of the pub kippered after a flagon of scrumpy.
At the front there's another badge which we all known says Porsche - but to the badger eating farmers it says Pawwwtch which reminds them of the place they sit at the front of their farmhouses after a hard days work - so this reminds them where the front of the car.

I'll be around later if anyone wants to come and come over and take the badge off the back of the car - personally, I couldn't give an RS!

From what I can understand, the L999 code was also used for colours that were not standard to the 964 (ie colours used on older cars). I've also read that if they liked a specific special order colour Porsche sometimes would paint one of each model on the line in the same colour, so you may find there are a 944 and a 928 around too!!

Either way, lovely colour and it'll certainly be very rare if not the only one!
That's a really special looking car! I wonder how many other L999 964's there are in the UK?

No, it's 341 Royal Purple an optional colour from the 1972 model year

See page 8 here: http://members.rennlist.com/tweedt/glasurit.htm

There are so crazy colours on this list - really cool 70's colours

Now that is funny. Great stories all around!

With multiple 911s in your past, it only natural that you are back in the driver's seat again.

What a brush with fame regarding Diana. Is you car the "automatic" blue Porsche that the casino staff drove into the Fiat? Or the innocent pink Porsche bystander? At night people might(?) mistake the unique color for either.

You have great friends...I wish someone would drop by my house some time with a stunning car like this!

My plans are to improve it in any way possible, use it whenever the sun is out and I have nothing un-Porsche-friendly in the diary and... most of all enjoy the ceremony of turning the ignition key and hearing that growl behind me.
It's been about 12 years since my last 911 - a Sepia Brown 2.4T - which I regretted selling and lost track of for about a decade - until last year. When I saw it again, I knew I had to find another 911. When this one came into my life by chance... I just knew we had a future.
That is what it is all about...sounds like this car is in good hands now!
Now more pictures please.

Thanks 911 Jetta - glad you have replied. Mine is the innocent pink Porsche -the newspapers got it a little wrong (not a first!). Anyway, if I was local I'd certainly pop round for a beer a BS session! :-)

Thanks for the welcome Ken. You can understand why farmers need a little help with 911s - they're used to the back being where the really big wheels are with chunky tyres and the front being where the really small wheels are...

Welcome PE

Was lucky enough to see your car at the Windsor meet & think I said Hello to you with your son?...but it wasn't exactly the sort of weather for a proper chat that day

Maybe you can make Sunday's meet, in the London 964 thread..

Cheers
