Latest Evo magazine: 964C2 beats 993..

I've had both, as well as a 996 and a 997 (all carrera 2's, like the test), and I think the article was spot on for all four of those models. Current, 964-based car is easily my favourite, because I like the way it looks and it is the most fun at sane speeds, although they were all great in their own way.

Talking to my local indie yesterday, he mentioned that he has 10 customers all looking for 964 C2s and that most now aren't even making it to the classifieds when they come up for sale.

My split screen camper trebled in value over a few years without me doing anything to it, because I bought it just before the rush. They go for silly money now. Here's hoping the 964 proves to be a worthwhile investment too.

Then I guess it's another one of those touchy-feely subjective things. All hold up very well, even in today's terms. But the newer cars are certainly more competent in as-delivered form.
I challenge anyone to say a stock torsion bar car (raise your hand if you remember running such on P7s..........) is a fun ride. Lower/align/decent tires/larger rear torsion bars/properly ugraded and valved dampers, and you've got something transformed relative to a 996 that pretty much works fine off the showroom.
So what do you do with those of us who have owned, maintained, and raced both platforms?

Sure, a water cooled car is 'better' than either a 993 or 964 in performance terms. Maybe a 993 is better than a 964 by that measure, too. But honestly, which car might get me around a track faster, or is more 'competent' is totally rrelevant to my ownership experience, else I'd be driving a Nissan GTR or some such. I say long live the 964 AND 993, for the somewhat unpolished driving experience both espouse.

It does show that a mildly upgraded 964 C2 doesnt deserve the same critisism as the standard car.

I went to Barnes & Noble tonight and the issue they had on the magazine rack was the October 2012 issue w/ the new Ferrari F12 on the cover and it did not appear to have the 964 content being discussed in this thread.
What Evo issue should I be looking for? Did I already miss it, or is it not on sale yet in the States?

FYI They usually show up around the 7th of the month...I should know as I have every EVO and its predecessor Performance Car since they have been available in the States.
Long live the 964!

And what a double bonus - not only does the 964 get a bit of praise but it's a grey one too, which must mean that grey 964s are the best From Scottr
I could comment on this but I bet it would be one sided ha ha And maybe the fastest !!!
But my $.02 .. I have driven a few of these cars and all are really close .. I love my 964 and will get a new car but I will never never never get rid of my 964 just to much of a grin factor to drive.
And seems like everyone wants to race. Just makes you grin bigger ......
