I've Joined the 964 Ranks!
Hi guys,
After many happy years of Carrera 3.0 ownership, last weekend I joined the ranks of 964 Carrera 2 ownership.
I have admired these cars from a distance for many years now and about 6 months ago a good friend of mine from the local Porsche Club (Bob) called me to let me know he was selling his car and asked if I would like to buy it? Knowing the car and owner so well, I could not let the opportunity pass. Unfortunately first had to off-load a 'daily driver' car to make room for the 964 and that took 6 mths would you believe! Thankfully Bob was in no hurry to sell his car.
So here are the specs:
- Carrera 2
- ’93 MY but build date is October 1992
- Midnight blue
- 5-speed manual
- 140,000kms
- Engine is stock apart from the exhaust – a “G” pipe
- Oil tightness is very good
- RS clutch and flywheel
- New rear taillight lenses and centre reflector
- Momo Corse wheel (the original airbag wheel also supplied)
- Suspension has Cargraphic coil-overs with H&R springs and Bilstein Sport inserts (Seems to be a good balance between handling and comfort)
- Suspension height and alignment set to RS specs
- New Continental tyres, discs, pads, handbrake shoes and refurbished wheels.
- New Polyurethane bushes to lower front A-arms (good mod!)
I've only done a couple of trips around the 'burbs in it so far (apart from the 140km test drive Bob allowed me back in February!), but I plan on a good mountain run on Wednesday. The car is a huge change from the C3, far more sophisticated and smooth - which I really like. It still has the 'animal' factor though when you give it some.
Here's a couple of photos of my new baby:

Welcome and congratulations!
I'm very excited for you - also having come from a mid-year car (although not as nice as yours), I was always a little apprehensive about the dilution of character that you hear about on the bird forums when it comes to these later cars. I have to say that after the two or three months that it took for this car to get under my skin, I could not be happier, and the '76 911 has been sadly neglected since.
The steering feel and feedback is definitely there, but you simply have to become a-tuned to it rather than simply expecting it to slap you in the face, like with the torsion bar cars. And the build quality and refinement is remarkable.
It's also funny, but in Australia, the relative rarity of these cars means that there's almost a separate market altogether for airbag-model manual C2 coupes, so you lucked-in there.
Happy P-car motoring!

Thanks guys.
Hey Eric, unfortunately yes, the C3 will have to go. Will be putting in on the market in a couple of weeks.
Price? About right! :-)
Peter, thanks for the comments. Yes I really did luck out. Australia is a funny market for these cars.

Hi Sheldon
I only sold it to you because I knew you'd look after it - but I must say that seeing "my car" on Rennlist under your user name makes me feel a little odd!
Enjoy it - I did!

Rob (or Bob!) - I tried to find one of your threads to get your username and give you better credit for the car (photos speak for themselves anyway).
Rob (Rocket) - no mods at this stage. Too busy enjoying it just as it is at the moment.
