Default Wheel Advice. Form + Function?

Hey guys, I only recently picked up my 964 and am still not in tune with the stance and clearance guidelines. I'm currently looking at a set of wheels which I think may be pushing it a bit though. I have searched and seen a thread specifically for the rear fitment, but wondering if any more people are running this setup or can give advice on it.

I also sent a PM to a few stance oriented people for some advice.

I have a narrow body by the way.

18x8et52
18x10 et40

I don't have anything rolled, I'm semi low on eibach springs and HD's.

The main issue I'm having is tire size. I think something like 225/40 or 225/35 for the front. For the rear, I was thinking like 255/40 with around 2 degrees of camber to clear?

But, the real issue is that I want to keep it functional, so do you think with this setup I would have some issues pushing it on twisty roads?

Any personal suggestions?

I'm running 18x8,5" et 52 front and 18x10" et 47 rear. Tires are 225/40 front and 265/35 rear.

Dont have any issues during driving.

So you are at factory alignment/stock camber? What are you dropped on?

Your thread was the one I mentioned in my first post, was very helpful. These wheels aren't the classy option I was hoping for with this car, but it will hold me over until a set like I initially wanted rolls around,

I've got minus 1.5 front camber and minus 1 rear.

Front Bilstein HD's as low as they'll go, rear not nearly bottomed out.

I'll find a pic and posted after I've fed the kids.

Great, I think my HD's are also as low as they will go.

How are you looking at the tiny bit of strech I might have with 255/40?

For the past two weeks I've been wondering whats this odd grind coming from the steering at low speed turns, I've been researching wheel bearings, steering rack problems, etc.

Finally today, on a "hunch" I look into the front wheel well and see that I'm rubbing when turning. Now I'm in need of spacers.

Can anyone suggest a what size spacer I should look into and do I need new studs?

I'l snag a picture later, but its not the arch thats rubbing, but the inner well. For example if you look in Adrians book under rub test you'll see what I mean. It "says" it was a sensitive issue from '89-91 years.

So it is basically rubbing like this?

This is on my '91 w/ stock suspension and OEM 17x7 +55 Cup2s w/ 225 front tires.

I bought the upgraded steering stops recently (964.347.325.02) but haven't installed them yet (even tho I just replaced my rack boots).

Here's a DIY on the process.

I think i've heard you can get a similar result w/ hub spacers rather than limiting steering travel, but I'm not sure.

Thats exactly whats happening. I think the "easier" solution would be to add a tiny spacer but I'm not sure which method to go with now.

i really wouldnt worry about this.

i had a volvo s60 T5 which came from the factory rubbing like that.

i have never been 10km/h with the wheels at full-lock and usually never more than 5 yards in distance.

you are more than likely doing 4km/h, and you know it rubs on full-lock anyway, so you:
a) just back-off a bit before full-lock, or
b) if you hear a light rub just ease back a bit

if you're looking for a more aggressive look and you want to fit spacers, then that is a different story.

Getting out of my driveway I have to turn full lock, even worse when people double park on the one way street. I hear a tiny squeal which I know know is the rubbing.

Its not only at full lock, for any right or left turn I feel the tiny grumble from the rub.

Now I'm just not sure what size spacer to get, and IF I need different studs. What do you think? 3mm enough?
